Research notes (May 2018):
Rick Moffat - Research required - what relationship is this Betty Moffit to Elizabeth Moffat, age 25 enumerated with the Walter Moffat family in the 1861 census? Mary Louise Young referred to her as Elizabeth McGee, rather than Moffit. That is consistent with information from Mary Gow that Betty Moffat married a McGee. However, the age of 25 would indicate she was born about 1836. Was she a daughter of this Elizabeth Moffat, and a niece of Walter Moffat?12

The following selected information is extracted from the obituary of Leonard Ernest Kreutzer.
Leonard Ernest Kreutzer was buried on 31 May 2017 at Oak Lake Cemetery, Oak Lake, RM of Sifton, Manitoba, Canada.4
Leonard Ernest Kreutzer began military service circa April 1942 joining the Canadian Navy. After about 4 months of basic training, he was on active service on Aug. 2, 1942.In April 1943 he was assigned to Victoria, BC where in May he was assigned to the minesweeper HMCS Outarde. This ship arrived in Prince Rupert in mid-September and Len was transferred to the HMCS Norsal. He served on several other ships and land bases including the Massett Wireless Station on the Queen Charlotte Islands and the Montreal Circle Wireless Station in Prince Rupert..3 Leonard Ernest Kreutzer ended his military service on 14 September 1945 at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and returned to his parent's farm near Lipton.
While we were visiting with Len and Pearl in May 2009, he told us about going to Winnipeg in 1940 or 1941. He was looking for work, but could not find any. He met George Miller, a local Lipton boy, who arranged for him to apply at a local brewery. He worked there, until one day he and a co-worker saw a Navy parade (probably a recruitment parade) and they decided to join up. During this time, his sister Lydia came to Winnipeg too. She did not have any money, so he bought her a coat. He re-introduced George and Lydia during this time, and they became engaged. He does not know why they did not marry. Another story he told was how he and several other brewery employees were dissatisfied with their hourly wages of about 30 cents per hour. They got on their bicycles and rode to a government office where they filed a complaint. Within a few days the brewery foreman called all of the employees together and explained that they could not increase wages due to wartime wage controls. Len thought he was going to be fired. The other men were let go, but he was not.5
Len and Eleanor flew out to help make arrangements when their brother Leo passed away in Hamilton, Ontario in January 1965. Their intent was to bring him back to Lipton for burial, but Leo's step-daughters wanted him buried close by, so he was interred in a Hamilton cemetery.5

See the footnotes below for a link to his KREUTZER: Leonard Ernest was born on the family farm, May 9, 1921 to William and Elizabeth Kreutzer. He was the youngest of twelve children. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home, Niverville, Manitoba with loving family around him. Leonard attended Freelands School and completed his education there. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was discharged in 1945. Upon returning home he married Pearl Senft in October, 1946. For Len and Pearl their married life began in Oak Lake in 1950 where they raised purebred black angus cattle and their three children, Keith, Darlene and Reg. Many fond memories were made on that farm. Soon enough Len decided it was time to sell his herd and he began his career with Watkins, first as a salesman where several times he was awarded top salesman for the month. In 1958, he became Watkin's Field Manager for Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The family moved to Saskatoon for two years, but Oak Lake was calling so Len and family returned, where he remained with Watkin's, until all his children left home. During this time, Len was very involved with church boards and community activities. He promoted the town of Oak Lake and worked tirelessly on many projects over the years. As his Watkin's career came to an end, he began his final work with the Department of Highways as a Weigh Station Inspector. This took Len and Pearl to Thompson, where many friendships were formed and then back to Griswold where Len worked at Headingly, until he retired. Pearl supported Len through all these changes and moves, quietly working in the background, allowing Len to follow his dreams. From Griswold, Len and Pearl moved to their acreage where trees, a garden and flower beds were planted. The final two moves were back to Oak Lake and finally Souris. Len loved to travel and Pearl never knew what each new day held in store for her. A lunch was packed and off they would go to Ethelbert, Dauphin, Garland, Seech Lake, Lake Metigoshe, Lipton, Balcares, and on and on... Their month long trip to Austria where Len, along with Pearl, met a distant cousin who showed them the sites, was a dream come true for Len. Finally declining health found Len and Pearl in Reston Care Home and in April of this year in Niverville Personal Care Home. Len loved people and he met many people and maintained many friendships. They were all important to him. He cherished each member of his family and they in turn cherished him. His was a life well lived. Len is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Pearl, and daughter Darlene (Claude). Leonard was so proud of his grandchildren; Michelle (Ryan), Tara (Jordan), Keith, Claudia (Todd), Dallas (Lynsey), Melanie (Don), Ben (Candace), Ken (Tamara), as well as his 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons Keith and Reg. The Ceremony to Celebrate Leonard's Life was held at the Oak Lake Community Hall, Oak Lake, Manitoba on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Rev. Don Sellsted officiated. Leonard was laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Oak Lake Cemetery. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Reston Care Home for their tender loving care of Len. Thanks also to the staff of Crocus Lane, Heritage Trail Personal Care Home, Niverville, Manitoba, for their compassion and care in the final weeks of Len's life. Donations in memory of Len may be made to The Oak Lake And District Museum, Box 411, Oak Lake, Manitoba R0M 1P0 or to the Griswold United Church c/o Dorothy Willman, Box 3, Griswold, Manitoba R0M 0S0. obituary that appeared in his memorial page on the web site of Memories Chapel published in Brandon, Manitoba, circa 24 May 2017.4
