The following obituary appeared in a Facebook posting by Dale Moffat 14 October 2016 :
To you who do not know yet, my beautiful wife of over 40 years died last night at 9:04 PM. She went peacefully and was able to see all seven of her grandchildren . She had no pain at all. As she went into eternity, her family was with her: Myself, Ronda, Jordy, Shane and Carla. We will miss her a lot but we know that Jesus has given us a hope and that she will be with Him from now on. It will be a time of joys and tears both. The service will be at Bethel Pentecostal Church 6350-13 avenue in Edson at 1:30 PM, on Friday October 21 with a viewing at Edson Funeral Home, from 7:00 PM to 9 PM the night before Thursday, October 20. In lieu donations can be given to Compassion Canada, an organization in which we have sponsored several children, including one named Moreen, whom we sponsored from age 8 to 23. We all love Maggie, with her smile her love for people and mostly her love for and faith in Jesus. As I talked to some of you, I was encouraged by the positive comments that were conveyed. Love to you all Dale

Yes, I do remember Heather, we used to visit her and her Mom and Dad whenever we made a trip down east, I vaguely remember their big old brick farm house. I have lost all touch with any of the Moffat relatives down east. Nice to hear that you haven’t.

You have let yourself in for quite a story when you start looking at Mom’s family so here goes. I will try to answer all the questions.

James Hamiltons 1871-1952 Born May 7 in County Tyrone, Ireland, died June 8, 1953 married Elizabeth Smith born Jan 16,1878-died Jan. 23,1933

    Children are:

Robert Hamilton born June 12, 1902 died of blood poison May 20, 1920

Marguerite Hamilton April 5,1904-died March 4,2002

John Hamilton March 23,1906-died May 24,1972

Shirley Hamilton Jan 15,1908-died Jan. 11,2010

William Hamilton Feb. 11,1910-died Oct. 10,1992

Alexander Hamilton born Jan. 18,1912-died Feb. 10,1969

Charles Hamilton born July 15,1914-died in 2000

Mary Hamilton born July 15,1914-1937 Charles and Mary were twins and were born in Australia

    Edgarena Hamilton born Nov. 3,1916-2013

    Doris Hamilton Aug. 26,1919-

Jean Hamilton 1922- March 22 birthdate

Auntie Jean is the only sibling still living, she is in North Bay and is doing very well, still in her own home.

Rena’s full name was Edgarena and she was named after her Mother’s youngest brother who died shortly after the battle of Vimy Ridge. It seems he survived that battle and was reassigned to a French battalion. We tried to find out more but that is all I know.

Uncle Charlie was the one who had a water drilling company and they touched a power line, a couple died and he had very serious injuries.

Part of the confusion is probably because Mom’s first husband was Ernie Hamilton, Jean’s Dad, she married a cousin and her name remained the same. The story about them moving with all their belongings on a truck was Ernie and Mom and Jean, Ernie had rheumatic fever and never recovered completely, they had nothing and part of the reason he died so young was because he went back to work way before he should have to support his family. They were moving Radisson for a job and I believe it was somewhere around Borden. The story went that they were not going to get to Radisson before dark so they stopped and took the bed off the back of the truck and slept there that night. Jean would likely have only been a few months old. Mom has quite a life story.

Ernie Hamilton born Feb. 24, 1914, died Nov. 1941, Mom and Ernie were married Dec. 19, 1938

I don’t have all the dates for births and deaths, while I am going through things I will see if I can find them. I found a few more dates but as in all things the more you look the more questions as now I have dates that are not the same, I have given the ones I have to the best of my knowledge.

I am to be in Saskatoon for Christmas and some of us will be back here after, I am starting some renos in my place so everyone will be helping me move out furniture, etc., very exciting but it makes my head spin trying to think of how I will manage it all.

I am glad to hear you are managing the symptoms from your chemo, I remember them telling us that they are so much better able to do that now.

It has been quite a year for you both. I am sending my best wishes for Christmas and all the best things in the new year.

Here is a picture taken last fall, we walk each fall to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and this was our group, Bev’s sister Drena and her daughter Krysta also walked with us.

I think of you often, let me know if there is anything else that I can help out with.

    Love, Pat

The other day he sent a note about your Mom because he was trying to sort out her maiden name. He pointed out that her family was enumerated twice in the 1911 census, and not all of the answers were the same!

He also included a link(www.carlyleobserver.com/obituaries/rena-burton-1.1487298)to your Aunt Rena’s obituary, which I had not seen before. The picture sure looked like your Mom!

That got me looking at the 1921 census to see if I could fit Rena and Jean into the picture. I believe that Rena was enumerated as Lorena in 1921, but don’t see Jean, unless she was baby Doris. I remember meeting both of them at your 40thAnniversary celebration. I wish there was another reason for a gathering like that. We Moffat’s don’t see enough of each other.

Check out your mom’s page on WeRelate (http://www.werelate.org/wiki/…) to see the census details.

I know very little (try nothing) about Ernie Hamilton so I was wondering if you could fill in a few details. I think I remember he was electrocuted when equipment touched a power line. I also remember your Mom telling us about one time when they had all their belongings in the back of their truck and they were moving north somewhere. It became late and they stopped near the Borden Bridge (maybe) set up the bed and camped for the night. Jean was along for that adventure.

Anyway, if you happen to have a birthday book that includes dates of birth and maybe deaths of Aunt Shirley’s siblings, I would incorporate them into my database. Just a small task to fit in between pageants, cookies, dinners and celebrations.

I had my first chemo on Monday and by Tuesday and Wednesday I was pretty nauseous, but no other side effects. Carole got my meds on a good routine by Thursday and today I am feeling normal.

Wishing you the best this Christmas season. I know you will have a wonderful time with the family.

I spoke to Aunt Shirley tonight (Wed, Sept 20, 2000.) Linda's funeral was today. Pat & Bev, Jean and Dennis went out to B.C, but Shirley could not travel. She says it is harder to lose your child than your husband, Uncle Herb passed away four years ago.6
In the obituary of Shirley Moffat who died 11 January 2010, her daughter, Linda McLaughlin was listed as predeceased.7
