The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Grimsby News published in Grimsby 31 August 1928:
THE LATE MR. JOHN H. WHITE
Grimbarian's Death in New Zealand.
We regret to record the death in Nelson, New Zealand, of a, one time well-known -resident of Grimsby, Mr. John H. White, in his 86th, year. Though it is 35 years since Mr. White left this town, with several members of his family, to take up his residence in New Zealand, there are numbers of senior townsmen who will recall to mind his energetic participation in various activities here.
Mr. White was a native of Ludborough, and was educated at Louth Grammar School. After leaving school he went to Thorncliffe, where lie received his business training, and where he first met the lady who was afterwards his wife. In 1864 he started business in Lacby, where he successfully carried. on until, in 1882, he gave up the business, and came to reside in Grimsby as agent for the New Zealand Government, and was instrumental in sending some 6,000 emigrants from Lincolnshire and Yorkshire to the land or the south, seas, as well as another 10,000 to Queensland.
Mr. White was for many years a live and active member of the Liberal Club; and was a prominent and indefatigable worker in the temperance cause, particularly in connection with the Good Templar movement. He was ever ready to lend a helping hand in any philanthropic or Christian work, and while at any time readily assisting any of the sister churches as might be desired, it is in connection with the work or the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Grimsby and surrounding district; that his memory will be most cherished. He was well-known as one of the most earnest and acceptable local preachers, first in the Caistor and Laceby, and afterwards. in the Grimsby (George Street). circuits.
On coming to live in Grimsby in 1882 Mr. White attached himself to the cause at. South Parade, which chapel was then but recently opened. and as Sunday School superintendent for a considerable number of years endeared himself to large numbers of the young folk of that day. He was also a very successful class leader and, with Mrs. White and the members of their family filled so, many other offices in connection with the South f Parade Society, that their loss was very keenly felt when in 1893 the family sailed for New Plymouth, New Zealand.
Shortly after settling in the new land Mr. White was employed by the New Zealand Methodist Church as a home missionary and for 25 years served his church with wonderful energy, devotion anu success, in several of New Zealand's more important home mission stations, the last seven years of his active ministry being in a suburb of the capital city, Wellington.
In 1920 Mr. White retired from active life, and. has since then made his home with his daughter in the apple lands of N.Z., near Nelson. On June 25th last, Mr. White, who until then had enjoyed the best of physical health, suffered a slight stroke; and passed away suddenly under another attack on July 13th.
Mr. White is survived by three sons, Mr. George Herbert White, of the Technical College Staff, New Plymouth, N.Z; Mr. Sydney Wales White, the well known artist of 5, Logan Place, Kensington, London and Mr. H. Temple White. musical conductor and judge, Wellington, N.Z; and one daughter, Mrs. Arnold. Wells, Mapua, Nelson., N.Z. twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mrs. White pre-deceased her husband by nearly 16 years.14

Wedding
Nesbitt - Lycett
Newcastle United Church was the scene of a quiet but pretty wedding on Saturday evening, April 25th, when Miss Helen May Lycett, Newcastle, daughter of Mr. Alfred Lycett, Delhi, Ont., and granddaughter of Mr. Thomas Moffat, Newcastle, was united in marriage with L.A.C. Jack Nesbitt of the R.C.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Nesbitt, Port Granby. Rev. R. E. Morton officiated at the candlelight service. The church was beautifully decorated with red and white snapdragons and lilies and the guest pews were marked with patriotic flags. The bride looked lovely in a wedding gown of romance blue with matching hat and accessories of navy blue. She carried a nosegay of pink roses. The bridesmaid was her sister, Miss Marjory Lycett, wearing a beige redingote, with matching hat and brown accessories. Mr. Newton Ashton, Bowmanville, was groomsman. Mr. Laurence Morton played the wedding music and during the register Mr. George A. Walton sang, O Promise Me.
Following the ceremony a reception and wedding luncheon was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Walton, Mrs. Alf. Lycett, mother of the bride, gowned in navy blue; and Mrs. Nelson Nesbitt, mother of the groom, wearing gray. The house was beautifully decorated in a color scheme of red, white and blue, featuring R.C.A.F. candles.
The bride cut the wedding cake and Mr. Geo. A. Walton, proposed the toast to the bride and groom. Short speeches were made by Rev. R. E. Morton, Mr. Nelson Nesbitt, Mr. Alfred Lycett and Mr. Garnet Rickard, felicitating the young couple. Later Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nesbitt left on a wedding trip to Western Ontario, the bride travelling in a gray, tailor-made suit with navy accessories, and with a red fox fur, the gift of the groom.
Previous to her marriage the bride received many handsome and useful wedding gifts from relatives and friends. She has been on the teaching staff of the Albert St. school, Oshawa, where her fellow teachers gave her a prenuptial shower. She was also the guest of honour and recipient of a shower at a house party of some friends in Oshawa. The groom has just completed a course as a radio technician at the University of Western Ontario. London, standing second in his class. He has received instructions to report at Manning Pool, Toronto, on May 4th.5

Mrs. Jack Nesbitt (nee Helen Lycett, Newcastle), 364 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa, has received the following letter from her husband Flt. Lieut. Jack Nesbitt:
Germany, April 5th. Please forgive me for not writing the last four days. I have been tearing along with Monty and his men on his finishing-up race. I needn't be here but my natural curiosity made me volunteer for it. I'm not sorry either. It has been a real experience. It is not at all comfortable but thrilling enough that the days fly by. I have only 30 of my men with me. We crossed the Rhine last week and are doing it up in style. We've had eggs and chicken. Yesterday, I made a reconnoiter for drinking water and found the nearest at a milk factory 20 miles away. Now we are having real butter—a grand change from margarine. I have been so used to it for years that I couldn't remember real butter.
I've commandeered a beer parlor for a house and we are living here. The boys are noisy in the next room tonight. We found a factory of alarm clocks. All night I hear alarms ripping out of the stillness. The bomb damage in this part of Germany is really inconceivable. I've seen nothing like it anywhere.
