BRIERCREST, Jan- 17---Friends, fellow-pioneers and relatives from far and near assembled in large numbers at Briercrest last week to do honors to Mr. and Mrs.. James Glen on the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. The golden wedding celebration was held under the auspices and direction of Knox Presbyterian church, with which Mr. and Mrs. Glen have been actively connected since Its organization and In which Mr. Glen has been senior elder and clerk of session from the first.
James Glen and Jean Alexander were united in marriage on January 11, 1877, at Ormston, Quebec by late Rev. D. M. Morrison. D.D. On August 4, 1890, they arrived at Moose Jaw and shortly afterwards took up land in the district of Drinkwater at Briercrest, where they raised a large family, all of whom survive, except one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Helesson, late of Kincaid.
Children Present
All the surviving members of the family. with the exception of one son, Fred, of Kingston, were present at the golden wedding celebration.
These were Mrs. George Motta, Moose Jaw; Mrs. Frank Collier, Drinkwater; John and Andrew of Briercrest; Ernest, of Kincaid, and Mrs. James Cameron, of Briercrest. These, with the members of their families and old friends and neighbors, filled the church. Mr. and Mrs. Glen received the greetings of the people as they entered the church and a book of congratulations, appropriately gilt-bound and decorated, was signed by all.
A large, three-storey cake held the place of honor. The session, managers and Ladies' Aid, Young People and other organizations of Knox Presbyterian church tendered the banquet.
Comes from Regina
The Rev. Dr. Bayne, Regina, who came especially for the occasion, presided and paid a warm tribute to the couple. He emphasized the lessons taught by the lives and character of such good citizens ana church workers as Mr. and Mrs. Glen.
Toasts were proposed by William Ogilvie, Jr.. and William Ogilvie. Sr.
Thomas Findlay gave a toast to "Our Guests” referring to them as the members of the family of the honored couple and invited guests other than the members and adherents of the Presbyterian church. This was ably responded to by Captain Jaques who referred as did the other local speakers to the pioneer days when Mr. and Mrs. Glen were friends and helpers to all-comers in the district. Piano solos by Mrs. Jackson and Miss G. Nichols varied the program and were greatly, enjoyed as were also songs by Mr. Shenton and Mr. McArthur. Short speeches were given by A. J. Walker, W. G. Gallaugher, C. McCulloch, W. Douglas, G. H. Coward, E. Wilt, W. McNaughton and by Mrs. Walter Hillson.
Many Congratulations
Dr. Bayne read letters of greeting and congratulations from Revs. W. A. Cameron, Saskatoon; D. G. Cameron, Swift Current; H. R. Home, Moose Jaw; D. Smith and Mrs. Duff, Maniwakl, Quebec. Telegrams were read from Glen, Jean and Grace Motta, Winnipeg; and Fred, Kingston, and Rev. G. M. and Mrs, Williams, D.D., on behalf of the session of the church at Georgetown, Quebec, which Mr. and Mrs. Glen, had attended.
Presentations Made
An impressive incident occurred near the close when Mrs. C. Findlay read to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn an address, while Mrs. William Elliot handed to Mrs. Glen a cream and sugar set, gold lined, to Mr. Glen a massive gold headed cane, and to both an eider down comforter. Both gave fitting replies. Mr. Motta, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Glen fittingly thanked all who took any part in the celebration and expressed the family's appreciation of the honor given to their father and mother.6

RECOLLECTION Feb 1/90
by Dr. Graeme Moffat, first cousin
ROBERT G Moffat, was born April 5th, 1908 in Coburg, Ontario. At a very tender age he became a stubble jumper, when his parents moved to Frobisher, Sask.
He attended school in Frobisher, and high-school in Oxbow, Sask. Graduated from the University of Manitoba, with his M.D. in 1934 and practiced in Man. until he went to Sheffield, England in 1937. Moved to Birmingham, in 1938 then to Cornwall in 1939.
In 1941 did his residency in Radiology in London and obtained his Doctor of Radiology form Cambridge University in 1942, after he returned to Canada and joined the Canadian Army Medical Corp as a Major, serving from 1942 until 1946.
In 1946 he was certified in Radiology in Canada and became Consultant Radiologist for the Province of Manitoba until 1948. From 1948-56 Bob was the Associate Director of the B.C. Cancer Institute, in Vancouver. 1956-57, he was the Radiological Director (or Doctor) West Coast Hospital, Port Alberni for Workman's Compensation Board.
In 1957 until 1962, he was an instructor in Radiology at Harvard, Medical School in Boston, Mass. Two years after entering the staff of Harvard, Bob was one of the 12 founding members, and the only Canadian, in the Society of Nuclear Medicine. [The SNM web site shows that the First Annual Meeting was held May 29th and 30th 1954, in Portland OR and confirms that Bob was a member of the founding group. Dad had the timeline slightly wrong. Rick Moffat July 2006]
From 1962-64 he was director of Cancer Services for the Province of Alberta. In 1965, Bob came back to Vancouver, and married Doris Muriel Taylor, whom he had first met at the University of Man during the '30's. After their marriage, they moved to Oakville Ont. where Bob was a practicing Radiologist until 1972.
Because of Bob's failing health, he retied in 1972 and Bob abd Doris returned to Vancouver, after times spent in and out of hospital, Bob was finally admitted to Shaughnessy Hospital, Ward B-3, in Sept. 1983.
Bob was a quiet, retiring man, with a pleasant smile, and a grin that was infectious, when he wanted you to see it.
He was well liked by staff and residents in Shaughnessy.
What we didn't know about Bob was that he was a sportsman, enjoying Golf, Curling, and Bowling.
Bob's presence will be missed, but not his memory.
Dear Janet and Elmer Feb 2, 1990
Yesterday we attended Bob's funeral. Betty Ann and Franky went in with us and we met Doris in the lobby of the apartment. She had her niece come in from Midway as she was her only blood relative there. We met in the lobby at 2 PM and the limousine picked us up there and took us to the church.
The funeral was held in a small chapel. There was a jor with six roses, two wreaths and 3 or 4 baskets of garden flowers. We ordered garden flowers from you and Herbs to go to the chapel and Annie and ourselves sent a basket to the apartment. After the service the garden flowers were all taken to the reception room and then to her apartment. That exercise will cost you twenty dollars. The flower (sic) all looked very nice.
The pianist did not appear and when they tried to set up a tape deck they could not find an outlet to plug into. There was no heat in the place and wooden pews are not the warmest things to sit on. The only music at the service was record of Taps. About 65 people attended the funeral 6 of whom signed the register. No one thought to take the register to the reception so she has no record of who called in there. There was quite a number and sandwiches, sweets, coffee, tea and wine were served. The wine ran out and that upset Doris more than anything, that was the last straw. I would not want to do business with her today.
I made copies of the recollections for our family, thought you would be interested to read it.
Betty Ann is going skiing at Hundred Mile House this week end so Franky is going to spend it with us. I'll have a crib partner.
We had a snow storm Wed. 4 or 5 inches I say. When we got home last night the neighbor had shoveled off my driveway. Today most of it has melted but we could get some more.
I will close now. Annie did not come because Alice was still expecting her baby. Which is just as well because we fly to Phoenix Feb 12 and its nicer to visit at our leisure.
Now I will close again. Take care of yourselves and God Bless you both.
Love

Grace Church Is Setting for Moffatt (sic)- Williamson Wedding
Grace Church was the setting for lovely wedding recently when Frances Enid Williamson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Williamson, Saskatoon, became the bride of the Rev. Alexander Thompson Moffat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Moffat, Frobisher, Sask. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. J. L. Stewart.
Tulips, white stocks, snapdragons and ferns decorated the front of the church. The guest pews were marked with white satin bows, and pink and white streamers.
Promptly at 3 o'clock the bride entered the church on the arm of her father to the strains of Wedding March from Lohengrin, played by Mr. Harry Jones, organist of Grace Church.
The bride was beautifully gowned in a floor length white brocaded satin dress, made on princess lines, sweetheart neckline, with long pointed sleeves, and a full skirt. Her fingertip veil was caught with a halo of white flowers. Her only ornament was a gold locket, a gift from the groom. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses and pink carnations.
The matron of honor, Mrs. W. Robert Jackson, wore a full length dress of rose moire taffeta. Her costume was completed with a coronet of powder blue flowers, and matching lace mitts. Her ornament was a dainty necklace, gift of the bride. She carried a bouquet of red and yellow roses, stocks and iris.
The groom was attended by his cousin, Mr. Herbert Moffat of Frobisher, Sask. Ushers were Messrs. Kenneth Williamson, brother of the bride, A1 Brown, Rae Allen and Rea Ostic. During the signing of the register Mr. Allen Robinson sang "Because."
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Williamson and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Moffat received with the bridal party the 65 guests at the reception in the Blue Room of the Elite. Mrs. Williamson, mother of the bride, chose for the occasion a costume of printed wine and black in two-piece effect with matching accessories. Her corsage was of red carnations. Mrs. Moffat, mother of the groom, chose a printed blue silk with navy accessories, completed with a corsage of pink and white carnations.
The tea table was draped with the brides hand-made ecru lace cloth over pink. The three-tiered wedding cake was decked with a miniature bell and lily of the valley and was embedded in pink and white tulle. Pink sweet peas and pink tapers completed the arrangements.
Mrs. A. S. Walker and Mrs. John Manuel, performed the tea honors. Assisting with serving were the Misses Golds Holler, Clessie Dewalt, Jacqueline Anderson, Helen Stewart, Evelyn Bird and Nina Furry. The wedding cake was cut by Mrs. W. Here and Mrs. Syd Smythe. Miss Aileen Odegaard had charge of the guest register. The toast to the bride was proposed by the Rev. Dr. G. H. Bennee and ably responded to by the groom.
Telegrams of congratulations were read from Mr. Syd Symthe, R.C.N.V.R., Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Miss Isabel Stilling, Vancouver, B.C; and the Rev. Clark Mc-Cutcheon, Shell Lake, Sask.
Out-of-town guests Included Mr. and Mrs. Roger Moffat, Mrs. A. Moffat, Mr. Herbert Moffat, all of Frobisher, and Miss Fern Beach of Gledhow.
The happy couple left a few hours later by car for a short honeymoon at Regina and Frobisher. The bride donned for travelling a turquoise crepe dress, pink hat completed with dark accessories. She wore a corsage of carnations, sweet peas and stocks. The young couple will make their home at the United Church Manse at Climax, Sask.17

The young couple will make their home at the United Church Manse at Climax, Sask.11
