The funeral of Issac took place from his home at 54 Second Ave., Ottawa, Ont. It was a lengthy one in charge of the Masonic Order., Fidelity Lodge No.231. The service at the house and grave was conducted by Rev. Mr. Harbor.1
The following biographical information appeared at the World Family Tree Download Volume 10, tree 3398, viewed on, 1 January 2001:
[ The news clipping states that Issac was born at Millbank, Ontario, 59 years ago, his parents moving to Wakefield, Quebec when he was two years old, since which time he has resided in Ottawa districts and in the city for the past 18 years. He was greatly esteemed by those who came in touch with him in a friendly or business manner. He was employed by W.C. Edwards Company as a "Woods Superintendent" on the Nation and Gatineau Rivers and was well known favourably in those districts.]
[ Conflicting information----some personal notes indicate Isaac was born at Momenyton, Ontario.]
Comments made by Marion re. her father:-
Isaac worked for W.C. Edwards Company and was based at Eagle Depot, Quebec. He was an old fashioned gentleman, i.e., no talking at the table. Oldest girls had to get up from table to clean dishes. He would'nt
allow his wife to do this. She, in his view, was a Saint.
They resided, when Marion was young, at 668 Cooper st., Ottawa, Ont., so Isaac was away from home for lengthy periods of time. Their home had a stable carriage shed, summer kitchen at rear of house.
Word has it that Isaac's family came to the Wakefield area, from Millbank, Ont., when Isaac as two years old. [?]
An invoice from Jones & Stevens Monuments, dated Oct. 2nd, 1918, indicated that Mrs. Irena Rice was living at 54 Second Ave. at that time. The monument cost was $150.00.
An invoice from Rogers & Burney, Funeral Directors, dated July 19, 1917 was in the amount of $219.00. Casket....$175.00; Outside case painter....$10.00; Hearse....$8.00; 4 Carriages....$16.00, Other....$10.00.
[Gary Harold Rice, grandson of Isaac, who is doing extensive research into the family tree, had come upon the marriage certificate of Isaac and Irena and thereon the surname is spelled "RYCE" (is this a misspelling by the clerk?), his death certificate has the surname spelled "RICE". However, Gary, in his research, also found that Arthur, (the son killed in France during WW l) had a tattoo on his arm with the word "Ryce". What is the significance?]1
