Wilhemina Schilka1,2,3

F, #13279, b. 18 November 1846, d. 19 October 1918
Last Edited5 Apr 2019
Wilhemina was born on 18 November 1846 in modern GermanyG. Note that day of birth may also be read as the 15th in the 1901 census.4,5 Alternatively, she was born in 1845 in modern GermanyG,3,6,7 or circa 1848 in modern GermanyG since her age was given as 43 in the 1891 census.8 Wilhemina married Matthew C Noack in July 1870, although I am no longer sure where I got this date.3,9,8,4,5,7 She died on 19 October 1918 in Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 71 according to Ontario Death Registration 034345.2,10,11,6 The informant on her death registration was her son, Matthew Noack.11 Wilhemina Schilka was buried in Killaloe (Grace) Evangelical Cemetery, Killaloe, Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.12,6

She also went by the name of Minnie or Mena in various census enumerations. She immigrated in 1870 to CanadaG from Germany according to the 1901 census.4
In the obituary of Lena Noack who died 16 October 1918, Lena's mother, but he died three days later, Mrs. Matthew Noack was listed as a survivor.13,14
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
There does not appear to be an Ontario Marriage registration for Matthew (Matthias) Noack and Minnie Shilka. However, their first child, Bertha was born in about 1868, either in Germany (if the year of immigration (1870) in the 1901 census is accurate) or in Ontario (as stated on Bertha's 1927 death registration.) Either they were married in Germany prior to an 1870 immigration, or they were married in Ontario prior to the start of marriage registration records in 1868.

In January 1900, Mat Noack Jr. registered the death of his father, Matthias Noack, a "single" farmer

In the 1901 census, Minnie Noack was enumerated as the head of her household, a widow and a farmer. Martin, not Matthew was listed in her household, but his birth date is consistent with Matthew's.

In October 1918, Matthew Noack registered the death of Wilimena (sic) Shilka, a widowed farmer's wife. Did he give her maiden name, or was she not legally a Noack?15
In the death registration of Bertha Noack who died on 24 May 1927, Minnie Schelkie was identified as her mother.16
In the obituary of Bertha Noack who died 24 May 1927, her mother, Mrs. Matthew Noack was listed as predeceased.17

Census Data

Matth Noark (sic) and Mena appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Grattan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. Matth was enumerated as a Farmer and a Wesleyan Methodist. Their children Mary, John, Frederic and Bertha were listed as living with them. According to other sources, Mena was the step-mother of Mary, John and Frederic.7
Mathias Noak and Mena appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Hagarty & Jones Twps., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. Mathias was enumerated as a Farmer and a Methodist. Their children John, Fredrick, Bertha, Albert, Mathias, William, Augast and Mena were listed as living with them. Aain, according to other sources, Mena was the step-mother of John and Fredrick.5
Mathias Noak and Mena appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Hagarty & Jones Twps., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 16 April 1891. Mathias was enumerated as a farmer and a Methodist. Their children Bertha, Albert, Mathias, William, August, Mena, Emma and Lena were listed as living with them.8
Minnie Noack appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901. Minnie was enumerated as widowed, the head of her family, and a Methodist. Her children Bertha, Martin, Augst, Minnie, Emma and Lena were listed as living with her. Note that her son Matthew was listed as Martin. Bertha's birth year was given as 1872, but since she was included in the 1871 census, we know this is inaccurate.4
