Military Service - WWII - U.S. Army

     Lee Holleny McCorkill began military service on 4 May 1944 at the age of 32 at Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas, USA, joining the infantry.15
     On 22 October 1944, he went overseas to Europe.14 On 7 March 1945, The Kansas City Star reported him among those recently wounded who were from Kansas. He returned to the US on 28 Jun 1945.14,16 Pfc. Lee H. McCorkill ended his military service on 19 November 1945 after serving in Cental Europe and the Rhineland.

     Rev. D. F. Rittenhouse, pastor of the First Baptist church, read the service in the presence of a gathering of friends and relatives.
     Wearing a gown of white organdy, trimed (sic) with sprays of pink and blue flowers, and long tulle veil adorned with pearls, brilliants, and orange blossoms, the bride was lovely. She carried a shower bouquet of pale pink roses and sweet peas.
     The maid of honor, Miss Billee Grossman, in eggshell satin, carried an armful of contrasting sweetpeas (sic). Willard Korrell served the groom as best man.
     Mr. and Mrs. Vail will take their wedding trip at a later date, owing to the serious illness of the bridegrooms father, D. V. Vail.8
