A quiet wedding took place in St.tephens Broadway United Church, Winnipeg, Man., July 27 when Valerie Erma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hare of Whitney, N.B. became the bride of Henry Vernon, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.K. Hume of Carlyle, Sask. Rev. H. A. Frame offiicated.
The bride wore a white jersey dress with white accessories and carried a bouwuet of red roses.
After the ceremony the happy couple left for a short honeymoon at Grand Beach. On their return they will reside in Winnipeg.4,5

Canadian Military Service - WWI
Walter Rainey Moffat of Estevan began military service on 21 November 1916 at the age of 21 at Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 249th Battalion. He was a Banker prior to enlisting. He served with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons, B Squad from 1911 to 1913. He was described as being 5' 6" with a fair complexion, brown eyes and auburn hair. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his mother, Anne Jane Moffat of Estevan, Saskatchewan. He was assigned regimental number 1069133.4 Pte. Walter Rainey Moffat ended military service as part of general demobilization on 28 March 1919 at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He had served for four months in France with the C.C.C. (Canadian Cyclist Corps) or more formally, the Canadian Corps Cyclist Battalion starting Sep 26, 1918 when he was an Acting Corporal.
"It was during the last 100 days of the war that the Canadian Corps Cyclist Battalion came into its own. Freed from their earlier manual labour, the cyclists began to perform the intelligence work for which they had been trained. Sent in advance of the infantry to keep in touch with the retreating enemy, the cyclists acted as battalion runners, dispatchers and scouts, as well as soldiers who took part in direct combat".
He was commonly known as Rainey or W.R.13
