The following obituary appeared in the weekly newspaper the Lawrenceburg Press published in Lawrenceburg, Indiana 11 April 1872:
DIED
Near Bunkum, Saturday, April 6, Mrs. Rebecca Swett, in the eightieth year of her age. She as married to Wm. Swett -- her now bereaved husband -- May 27th, 1812, with whom she lived nearly 59 years. She united with the Presbyterian Church in 1822, living an acceptable and faithful member for fifty years. Thus she has gone from our midst, venerable by age, and loved for her good works. Hers was not a religion that made itself known by noisy demonstrations to be heard, but rather of that kind that was felt in deeds of usefulness. She was the neighborhood Mother -- no night was too dark, or cold, or stormy for her to go to the bed side of the sick -- herself a great sufferer from chronic disease, she was in sympathy with the sufferings. Her work is done, her sufferings are ended -- life's long warfare closed. "She rests from her labor and her works do follow her."5
