Father* | Thomas Langdale1,2,4 b. c 2 Apr 1767, d. 18 Apr 1837 |
Mother* | Elizabeth Hill1,2,4 b. 1778, d. 29 Jun 1838 |
Relationship | 2nd great-grandaunt of Richard Graeme Moffat |
Last Edited | 25 Feb 2023 |
She was born circa 29 August 1805, probably at or near Leake, at Yorkshire (North Riding), England.5,6,2,3 Ann Langdale was christened on 29 August 1805 at Leake, Yorkshire (North Riding), England.4,3 Ann married Simon Christopher Tutin circa 1829.1,7,8
Ann Langdale was buried at Georgetown Cemetery, Miller Twp., Dearborn County, Indiana, USA, While Phyllis Sine's Langdale Family Record does not name the cemetery, the usage of "consort of" implies this is another gravestone transcription. The stone no longer exists and is not recorded in the transcriptions of this cemetery.1
Ann Langdale died in 1843 at Dearborn County, Indiana, USA.1
She immigrated with her parents, Thomas Langdale and Elizabeth Langdale between 1 April 1828 and 30 June 1828 to Alexandria, Alexandria County, Virginia, USA, left England from Liverpool, arriving at the port of Alexandria, VA on board the Pioneer under ships master, Leonard Marberg or possibly Marbury.2
Simon's obituary states that he probably married shortly before coming ot the US in 1829. However, Ann came to the US with her family in 1828, so I presume they were married in 1829 or shortly after. Their first known child was born in 1836, so their marriage may have been closer to that date.9
Only the head of the household was named in the 1840 census, with the number of household members broken out by age and gender groupings. Ann appears to have been included in this statistical breakout of the household of Simon C. Tutin.10,11

She was born on 20 February 1870 at Belmore, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada.5,6,4,3,7 Louisa married Robert Moffat on 24 December 1889 at Brandon, Manitoba, Canada.2
Louisa Peterman died on 28 January 1947, at her home, at the Holmfield district, RM of Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, Canada, at age 76.4,7
Her obituary did not mention Gertrude Elizabeth Moffat.7
Louisa Peterman was buried at Holmfield Cemetery, RM of Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, Canada.8,7
In the will of Robert George Moffat on 9 September 1916 his mother, Louise Moffatt was a beneficary. Note that someone else completed the will and Robert signed it. They spelled the surname of both Robert and his mother as "Moffatt", but his signature is clearly "Moffat"; his mother.9
Robert and Louise Moffat appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of RM of Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a Presbyterian and a farmer. Their children: Emma, Herbert, Robert, Bruce (sic), Mildred, Percy, Arthur and Gertrude, were listed as living with them.5
Robert and Louise Moffatt appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Manitoba, enumerated 5 June 1911. Robert was described as a Presbyterian, and as a Farmer. Their children Emma, Herbert, Robert, Ruth, Mildred, Percy, Arthur, Gertrude, Mary, Russell, Lillie, Frank, Stanley and Roy were listed as living with them.6
Robert and Louisa Moffat appeared on the 1916 Census of Canadian Prairie Provinces, Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, enumerated 14 July 1916, described as a farmer. Their children M., Herbert, Robert, Mildred, Percy, Arthur, Gertrude, Mary, Rushal, Lily, Frank, Stanley, Roy and Pearl were listed as living with them. His sons, Herbert and Robert were listed as soldiers. The abbreviation "C H" beside Robert's name probably indicates he was at Camp Hughes, while the notation 100 B before his name could indicate 100 Battalion which is consistent with his attestation papers. Darcy and Arthur were listed as farmer's sons.3
In the obituary of John Stanley Moffat who died 23 May 1933, his mother, Louisa Peterman was listed as a survivor.10
The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Winnipeg Free Press published in Winnipeg, Manitoba 1 February 1947:
