     The following information is extracted from his obituary. Survivor(s): J F Martin, Mrs J F Martin, Cecil Martin, Mrs L Fairburn, Mrs K MacGregor, Mrs J J MacKenzie, Mrs S Junop, Ada Martin and Madeline Martin.1 Maurice Allan Martin was buried on 22 February 1944 in Harrowgate (Stonefall) Cemetery, Yorkshire, EnglandG, with military honours.1,4
     Canadian Military Service:
     Maurice Martin began military service on 13 April 1941 at the age of 20 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CanadaG, joining as Aircraftman Class 2 (AC2) and later advancing to Sergeant on Apr 9, 1943. He remained in training untl Nov 9, 1943. On Aug 26, 1943 (or possible Nov 16, 1943 - his service file contians both dates) he was commissioned as a Pilot Oficer, serving as a Navigator.1
     On 16 February 1944 he and 6 other crew members were killed when the Halifax bomber that was carrying them crashed 2 minutes after take-off during a cross country night training mission.

Memorial Service
DELISLE,--A memorial service was held Sunday, March 12, in Avondale Baptist Church for P.O. M, A. Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Martin of Delisle, who was killed while on active service in Britain with the R.C.A.F.

The service was conducted by Rev, H. G. Jorgenson, who with Arthur Wellwood, spoke regarding the excellent character of the late Pilot Officer Martin.

During the service a trio was sung by Estelle, Shirley and Robert Summach, a duet sung by Marrieta and Robert Summach and a duet sung by Olive and Arthur Wellwood.

The late Pilot Officer Martin enlisted in April. 1941, and left for overseas in November, 1942.6

     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Saskatoon StarPhoenix published in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan 6 April 1944:
P.O. MAURICE MARTIN
of the Avondale district near Delisle, was killed in a recent flying accident while on active service in Britain. Pilot Officer Martin and his crew perished when the plane in which they were on a training flight crashed a few miles from the take-off.

Maurice Martin was born in the Delisle district on April 18, 1920, and received his schooling in the Avondale Public School and Delisle High School. He enlisted In Saskatoon in April, 1941, and was sent to manning depot at Brandon, from where he was stationed to Edmonton for his initial and final training as a navigator. He went overseas in October, 1942, end had made many operational flights over enemy territory.

The funeral service was conducted at a small village church near the airfield by the station chaplain, Squadron Leader Lowry, with full military honors. Burial was made In the Canadian section of the Royal Air Force Cemetery at Harrogate, England.

Maurice was a capable navigator and member of one of the outstanding crews. He was popular with all his companions. In the Avondale district where he had lived the whole of his life up to the date of his enlistment he was popular. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Martin; one older brothel. Cecil, and six sisters, Mrs. L Fairhurst, Mrs. K. MacGregor, all of Delisle and Avondale; Mrs. J. J. MacKenzie of Calgary, Mrs. S. Junop of Asquith, Ada of Kerrobert. and Madeline of the R.C.A.F. (W.D.) at Dafoe.7

     Beatrice was born on 10 September 1902 in Wales, North Dakota, USAG.1,2 Beatrice married Lloyd Merefield Fairburn on 12 December 1923.3 She died on 12 January 1980 in the local hosiptal in Outlook, Saskatchewan, CanadaG, at age 77.2
     The following information is extracted from her obituary. Survivor(s): Lloyd Fairburn, Cecil Martin, Violet McKenzie, Lola Junop and Minerva McGregor. Predeceased: Maurice Martin, Elden Martin, Ada Martin and Madeline Anderson.2 Beatrice Fairburn was buried on 16 January 1980 in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CanadaG.2
     She emigrated with her parents (when she was two months old), Jacob F Martin and Mary Caroline Marriott circa November 1902 from North Dakota, USAG; to Saskatoon and later the Avondale district where they farmed.2
