The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Star-Phoenix published in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan 2 December 1949:
RECOGNIZED AUTHORITY ON LAND
Angus McMillan Dead, Aged 71
Angus McMillan, who in 1904 and following years drove thousands of miles by horse and buggy locating settlers in the Goose Lake and Kindersley district and who, in 1908 took an 850-mile drive setting up the first polling subdivision in northwest part of the province, died in a local hospital Thursday.

The funeral will be held from St. Andrews Presbyterian church at 2.30 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

Born in Glengarry in 1878, he came west from Ontario to Neepawa in 1897, and to Saskatoon, where he has lived ever since, in 1903.

On his arrival, he built a small house and a barn just north of the site of the Birks building, on Third Avenue, next door to the home of Fred Engen of the Saskatoon Land Company, who in early days was the first man to conduct mechanized farming on a large scale.

In these early years he took up the business of locating settlers, and even in the last years of his life recalled their names by association with their township locations. His journeys were of necessity made by dem-
(McMILLAN Continued on Page 6, Column 4 -- CONTINUED FROM PAGE THREE McMillan)
ocrat and team or horse and buggy--the steel had not yet come to this part of Saskatchewan.

His experience established him as a recognized authority on land values, and in 1948, when he retired, he had for 12 years been a member of the Saskatchewan Farm Loans Board.

Mr. McMillan was a life member of the Saskatchewan Curling Association, and for 25 years an executive member of the Saskatoon association. He threw a rock on the city's first rink, a two-sheet affair set up in 1904 near Twenty-second Street and Fourth Avenue.

In 1912 be built the sixth-storey (sic) Glengarry block on Third Avenue, and his personal fortune was wiped out when a portion of the building caved in when near completion.

An executive of the Saskatoon Old Timers Association, Mr. McMillan contributed much material to local histories of the city and district, recollections, some of them, of the prairie nights which he spent sleeping beneath his buggy. The recent annual dinner and dance was the first one that he had missed.

Another organization in whose work Mr. McMillan was interested was the Anti-Tuberculosis League.

In 1905 Mr. McMillan married Charlotte Johnson, daughter of a western pioneer. She survives him. Other survivers (sic) are: three daughters, Mae, a city employee Betty, Mrs. Harold Mighton, now living in Buffalo, N.Y., Kay Mrs. Hector Verge, of Quebec city; three sons, Orville, of the local firm of Measecar, DeRoche and McMillan, Stewart, of Regina, secretary of the local government board, and Douglas, civil engineer in provincial government service. A sister, Mrs. Margey McMillan, lives at Merriott (sic), Sask., and there are four brothers, Alex at Juniata, Donnie at Plenty, Ernie at Marriott and Racey, Alexandria, Ont.2

In the obituary of Ernie D McMillan who died 6 July 1967, his brother, Angus McMillan, was listed as predeceased.10
In the obituary of Charlotte Ann McMillan who died 29 May 1968, her husband, Angus McMillan, was listed as predeceased.5
