     John Lamont Montgomery and Ann appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, enumerated 5 June 1911. John was enumerated as labourer on a farm. Their children Elizabeth and William John were listed as living with them.1
     He was also known as John L. C. Montgomerie in the 1901 census of Scotland.2 J. C. L.      The death of John Montgomerie, aged 7i, occurred at the family residence, 715 First Avenue, north, this morning. He is survived by his widow, lie was a prominent member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, taikng (sic) an active part in all church work. The funeral service will be held in the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 2.30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial will lake place in the family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery.4

Special to the Star-Phoenix
ASQUITH, Feb. 2.-
-William Lake 80 years old, a prominent resident of this community since he came here in 1904, died on Tuesday. Mr. Lake was an active member of various farm organizations, and a life member of the Saskatchewan Grain Growers' Association. He organized the Eagle Creek Telephone Company, and was its secretary until a few years ago. He was also veteran checker champion of Saskatchewan. He was born in Norfolk England. Surviving, besides his widow, are two daughters, Bessie, in Ohio, and Nancy, at home and seven sons, William, James, Phillip, Edward, Samuel, and Albert, at home, and George in Vancouver. Another son, Thomas, was killed in the Great War, and a ninth son, Ingram, died in 1935. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon, at 1.30 o'clock from Asquith United Church, with Park Funeral Chapel In charge. The Rev. C. Banks will officiate. Interment will be in Asquith Cemetery.7

Death of Oldtimer Shock to Asquith
William Lake, Senior, Came to District in 1904; Active in Farm Co-operative Work
ASQUITH.
--Asquith citizens were shocked by the sudden death of William Lake. Sr., old timer and early pioneer of this district. Born in Norfolk, England, in 1859, Mr. Lake came to Canada in 1904 settling on a farm west of Asquith where he has since resided. In 1907 he was highly instrumental in the organization of the United Grain Growers Company in this district and was a life member of the Saskatchewan Grain Growers Association. He assisted in organizing the Co-operative Elevator Company and was an active Wheat Pool man to the end. He also helped to start the Eagle Creek Telephone Company and was its secretary until two years ago. Ho was well known among Provincial checker players being the Veteran Champion of Saskatchewan.

The funeral was held from Asquith United Church and was conducted by the Rev. W. Banks, interment taking piece tn Asquith cemetery. He leaves a widow, two daughters, Bessie of Shinrock, Ohio, Nancy, at home and seven sons. William, James, Philip, Ned, all of Asquith, George of Vancouver, and Sam and Albert at home. One son, Thomas, was killed in the Great War and another son, Ingram, predeceased him in 1935. The pallbearers were Harry Chambers, W. J. McTavish, J. D. McTavish, W. D. McQuitty, T. C. Burwell and W. J. Rice. Many beautiful floral tributes testified to tho esteem in which he was held.4
