The following obituary appeared 4 May 1950:
MRS. W. CHAS. WERRY
[:NB:- ] On Monday, April 24th, there pased (sic) quietly to rest, in Oshawa Hospital, Josephine Penfound, beloved wife of W. Charles Werry.
Daughter of the late Joseph Penfound and Emma Brooks Penfound, the late Mrs. Werry was born in Darlington Township, February 11, 1870, and was united in marriage with Mr. Werry May 18, 1904, at Courtice.
Prior to making their home at 109 Agnes St., Oshawa, in 1916, she had lived at Tyrone, Courtice and, after her marriage, at Solina. The late Mrs. Werry early united with the Methodist Church, and at the time of her death was a member of King Street United Church, Oshawa. Her innate love of music gave expression especially in sacred song which brought her into church choir work. Other interests outside her home were Sons of Temperance, Women's Institute, Ladies' Aid and Woman's Association organizations. The Group to which she belonged in King St. W. A. held her warm support even after failing health prevented participation in the activities. Her interest in life was bright and keen, and one forgot the passing years, in her presence.
Sustaining a fractured hip, deceased spent ten weeks in Oshawa Hospital where she put up a brave fight for recovery. Her appreciation of the kind and faithful care of the nurses was shown by the patience she exercised and the co-operation she gave them.
Besides her sorrowing husband, Mrs. Werry is survived by one daughter, Mrs. M. H. Moffatt (Audrey), and two grandchildren, John and Joanne Moffatt, Oshawa. Besides her parents, two brothers, Tom and Fred, and two sisters, Lillie and Lizzie Penfound, predeceased her. Mrs. Tom Penfound, Bowmanville, survives.
The largely attended funeral took place from the M. F. Armstrong Funeral Home, on Wednesday afternoon. Interment took place in the family plot, Bowmanville Cemetery. Rev. E. J. Robertson, pastor, assisted by Rev. S. R. Henderson, Trinity Church, Bowmanville, conducted the services.
Beautiful flowers brought many messages of esteem, love and sympathy. Bearers were: Messrs. Clarence Penfound, Ebenezer, Alan Penfound, Oshawa. Clarence Werry, Kedron, A. R. J. Luke, Toronto, E. A. Werry, Enniskillen, Wes. W. Werry, Solina.
Among relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs. Sarah Henderson, Palmerston, Mrs. Mabel Henderson, Mrs. Laura Penfound, Bowmanville, Messrs. John and Roy Penfound, Mrs. L. M. Keith, Mrs. G. L. Gibson. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. J. Luke, Miss O. E.
