The following obituary appeared in an email from David Bolling 20 April 2001:
Late Samuel White
There passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 1949, Samuel White, in his 82nd year. He was born on the old White homestead, and nad (sic) lived there during his entire life. He was a successful farmer and respected by all who knew him. Widely known and esteemed throughout the district, the deceased lived for home and church, rather than for public office. A rich memory is left in the hearts of all who were acquainted with Mr. White.
His father, Samuel White Sr. came to the neighborhood from Uxbridge, about the year 1847, and later, in the year 1852, built what is known as the "White's Church". This edifice still stands as a family monument, serving the commfunity (sic) as a place of spiritual worship all these years. It is interesting to note also that deceased's father, donated the land from the farm for a church site, and also land for a nearby cemetery. He paid five shillings, (the currency of that time), in order to legalize the said property for burial purposes.
The subject of this sketch was married to Martha Gekill, a near neighbor who predeceased him year of 1941. Surviving their parents are one son, Ernest and a daughter, Elsie. Another son Percy, died in 1908 in his 18th year. Two sisters also survive, namely, Mrs. R. Hemphill, and Mrs. J. Gilray of New York. Miss Susan White, a sister, and Naaman White, a brother, predeceased their brother Samuel.
The funeral service was held on Friday, August 12th, in White's Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. L.E. West, of Heathcote, a former pastor was in charge of the service, in absence of Rev. J.M. Fraser. Interment was made in the Union Cemetery at Thornbury in the family plot.
Pall-bearers were Messrs Howard Bolling, S. McGuire, J.P. McDonald, V. Hewgill, E. Hewgill, E. Hoggard. The flower-bearers were Keith McGuire, Alex McDonald, Manuel Hewgill, Raymond Hewgill, E. McMillan.
Floral tributes were received from the following: "Pillow" from family, Wreaths or sprays from Mr. And Mrs. H. Gekill, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Shaw: Whie's (sic) United Church, Tenth Line W.A.: Loughheed Bros.: Mrs. Wm. White and family: Mr and Mrs Roy Shaw:Mr John Gekill, daughter Verna: Mr and Mrs A.L. Davies; Mr and Mrs Amos Heslip: Mr. Wm. Gekill: Mr and Mrs H. Sampson: Mr and Mrs Crosby Sampson: Mr. And Mrs Wm. Whitfield: Mr and Mrs L. Reid: Mrs. Sam. Armstrong.

Reid: Mrs. Sam. Armstrong.
The late Mr. White now rests from his labors. He loved the Church and its institutions and sought their advancement His works follow him and of him it may well be said, "Servant of God, and Friend of Man, Well Done."14

She was born on 14 October 1858 at Grey County, Canada West, United Province of Canada.1,6,7,8,9 Alternatively, she may have been born on 14 October 1862 at Canada West, United Province of Canada, listed as 42 in the 1901 census, which would mean she was born about 1858, not 1862 as written by the enumerator. She was listed as 4 on her next birthday in the 1861 census. Therefore, the 1858 birth year appears to be more probable.11,4
