The following selected information is extracted from his obituary. His wife, Mary Green was referenced but not by name.17
Samuel White was buried at White's Methodist Church Cemetery, Lot 18, Conc. 10, Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario, Canada.20,18,19
He was Baptised/Christened on 28 October 1821 at Ludborough, Lincolnshire, England.11
Came from England to settle in Beaver Valley, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. They sailed from Hull, England on March 14, 1844 and spent four years in the Gore of Toronto before settling in Collingwood Township, Ontario.
Page 216 -- An Illustrated History of Collingwood Township, mentions a great-grandson named Harold Gekill.
Samuel and Mary lived in Canada. In 1852, they were living in a single story log house in Collingwood township, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. Samuel was a farmer. Both Samuel and Mary were born in England.
Census records show Samuel and Mary were Wesleyan Methodists. In the 1851/2 census, Samuel was shown as age 31 and Mary as age 26. They had a 100 acre farm of which in 1851, 15 acres were under cultivation, the rest in wood or wild. Two acres were in wheat, a quarter acre in Oats, three quarters acre in Indian corn, one quarter acre in potatoes, and one quarter acre in turnips. They produced 15 pounds of wool, had 2 bulls or oxen, 2 milk cows, 3 calves, 4 sheep, and 6 pigs. The produced 50 pounds of butter and 4 barrels of pork.
One child, Mary Ann, age 2, was shown in the 1851/2 census. She is shown as being born in Canada, so the Whites apparently had been living there at least two years.
The Ontario 1861 census shows the Whites living in Collingwood Township as before. There are now four children listed, Mary Ann, Mamon (as the census spelled it), Martha and Susan. One new piece of information is supplied. There is a column for marriage year in the 1861 census. This is frequently not filled in but for the Whites it showed a date of 1848.
According to the 1861 census, Mary Ann, age 11 and Mamon, age 8 attended school during the year.
