William Forest was the Enumerator who took the 1851 Census for Horton Township, Renfrew County and the oath is dated February 16, 1852. Charles Mayhew is listed on page 35 in section 315 - Horton Township as follows ..... Farmer, place of birth, listed as Montreal. Age 46, born February - C1805. His religion was listed as Catholic. ... Their type of home was listed as a Shanty. He owned 100 acres of land, twenty acres were under cultivation, 13 acres were in crops and 7 acres of pasture. Seven children were listed, all born in Horton Township, Can. West.18

     Charles and Anne Mayhew appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census (delayed) of Horton Twp., Renfrew County, Canada West, enumerated 12 January 1852.. Their children, Mary Ann, Hannah, Peter, Joseph, Jacob, Charles and Lewis, were listed as living with them.7
     Charles Mayhue appeared on the 1861 United Province of Canada Census of Admaston Twp., Renfrew County, Canada West, enumerated 14 January 1861. Charles was described as a farmer and a Roman Catholic.. His children, Hanah, Peter, Joseph, Jacob, Charles and William L, were listed as living with him. All of the children were listed as Episcopalian. They lived in a log house, which was a step up from the shantys occupied by some neighbours. The enumerator gave birth places as Upper and Lower Canada, even those these terms were replaced 20 years earlier by Canada West and Canada East, respectively.18,15
