John Hobson White was an Immigration Agent in England and responsible for the immigration of thousands of English farm workers to NZ & Queensland, Australia in the late 1800s. He is well documented in NZ. We have a book that devotes a whole chapter to him & he also features in our big new Museum of NZ in Wellington. He himself didn't come here until 1893. Several of his brothers & sisters also came to NZ before him. He lived here where we live now with Peter's grandparents in the later years of his life & is buried in the cemetery near by. It is a wonder he lived to come to NZ as he was not at all popular with the Lincolnshire farmers in encouraging the English farm workers to immigrate & better themselves. It is a miracle he wasn't lynched from what we've read.11,2,12

1638 John ye fonne of Marmaduke Patchet and Mary his wife was baptized May the 7th.
1638 John the fonne of Marmaduke Patchet & Mary his wife was buried May the 3rd.
(The dates in the above two records seemed quite clear but do not make sense.) Were there two John's, one dying just before the other was born, or is there a transciption error?3
John Patchet died circa 3 May 1638 at Benniworth, Lincolnshire, England. He was baptized on 7 May 1638 at Benniworth, Lincolnshire, England.3

South Elkington is a place name and a parish located about half way between Ludborough and Benniworth.
Malcolm Wells' pedigree chart showed George and his siblings as children of George Patchett (1628.) However, this meant that George would be about 52 when his first child was born.
The IGI records show that Christopher Patchett (christened on this date) was the son of John Patchett and Elizabeth.7,2,1 His name was also recorded as Christopher Paget.6

A burial record in the Ludborough Parish records shows that a John Patchett, son of John and Elizabeth Patchet was buried on May 23 1701. I am assuming they are the same person, although the senior George Patchet had a brother John. My assumption is based upon the common month and day of burial.8
