Research notes (25 August 2005):
Thomas John Touzel is referenced in my analysis of Eleanor Laure Touzel and Mary Kaineen Touzel in October 2025; Confusion Reigns
Eleanor Laure Touzel and Mary Kaineen Touzel were twins born 23 Sep 1913, according to their birth registrations.
In a 1914 death registration, it is recorded that Laura died of diptheria. The informant was her uncle who may have confused the names of his twin neices, and given the wrong name to the registrar.
The obituary of their father, Thomas John Touzel, lists Laura as a surviving daughter, and does not mention her deceased twin sister.
The obituary of their brother, Thomas John Mervyn Touzel, mentions them both, with Laura surviving and "Kareen" dying as an infant sister.
So, was the wrong name enetered on the death registration (see above), or did the family like the name Laura and decided to transfer it to the surviving twin?
For the purposes of this database, I will show that Mary died, and Laura survived, and assume that the informant on the death registration provided the wrong name.7
Other information from their marriage registration:
The registration listed the following official witnesses: Celia Boland and Thos. A. Boland. Her parents were listed as Chas W. Bowland and Mary A. Bowland.2

KILLALOE STATION.
Two of the Most Popular Young People in the Vicinity, Undergo an Interesting Ceremony.
May 15.— On Tuesday, the 8th (sic) Inst., very happy event took place in our village. We refer to the marriage of Mr. T. J. Touzel of Gaspe, Quebec, to Miss Annie M., eldest daughter of Mr. Charles W. Boland, J. P. The marriage ceremony was performed in Zion church, by Rev. W. P. Garrett, Anglican minister of Janeville, Ottawa, who formerly had charge of this mission.
Miss Cecilia Boland, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, while Mr. Thomas A. Boland, assisted the groom in the trying ordeal, or rather on the happy occasion.
The pretty church was filled to its utmost capacity. At 11:30 a.m., the final words were said which made the happy young people one for life. Immediately afterwards, the young couple, along with their friends repaired to the residence of the bride's father, where a bountiful repast, prepared for the occasion, awaited them. After partaking thereof, and after the reception and toasts, the newly married couple left by the O., A. & P. S. train, on their wedding tour.
After visiting Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, and other places, they purpose spending some time at the home of the groom at the seaside. The day was a lovely one, the beautiful sun shining from early morn to late in the evening, and if there is anything in this, they certainly had the benefit thereof. The bride looked beautiful, dressed in white silk, trimmed with chiffon lace and orange blossoms, and she bore in her hand a bouquet of white roses. The bridesmaid also looked charming, dressed in organdie and pink roses and performed her part most gracefully.
The bride was the recipient of many valuable and useful presents, which showed the high esteem in which she was held. Among them, was a valuable one (accompanied by an address) from the church, in which she was very active worker.
All join in wishing them very happy future.5

Confusion Reigns
For the purposes of this database, I will show that Mary died, and Laura survived, and assume that the informant on the death registration provided the wrong name.8
