Caroline Jurth1,2,3

F, #14846, b. September 1830, d. 1 April 1908
Father*Johann Gottfried Jurth4,5,6,3 b. c 1797, d. a 2 Apr 1871
Mother*Liese Bulkow b. c 1800, d. 29 Sep 1878; Identification of Caroline as a daughter of Johann Gottlieb Jurth and Liese Bulkow is based upon the Brandenburg Prussian Emigration records. Both families immigrated to Canada in 1863 from the same area of Germany.

In her husband's obituary, her maiden name was listed as Yandt. This means:
a) Yurth and Yandt are variations based upon interpretations of hand-written records. In this case Yandt would probably be more accurate, and the relationship to J G Jurth less probable;
b) an error in the obituary, or
c) an error in the Brandenburg record

Update May 2016
The Hamburg Passenger list for their departure appears to read Y G Yurth and family.

Martin Markus, 91, a native of Germany and a resident of Pembroke for nearly half a century. Born in 1834 and in 1857 he married Miss Caroline Yandt. They came to Canada in 1863, settling at Golden Lake. A bricklayer-stone mason by trade, Mr. Markus moved to Pembroke about 46 years ago. He was bereaved in 1908 by the death of his wife, following wife (sic) he lived with his son, William Markus, contractor. Of eight children only three survive: William; Mrs Charles Pankie of Pembroke; Mrs Augusta Kelow, Wilberforce.1

Martin Markus was referenced in an article about the wedding anniversary ofCharles Panke and Minnie Markus which appeared on 27 March 1942 at the newspaper, The Ottawa Journal, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Minnie's late father; Valley Couple Wed 50 Years Sunday
PEMBROKE, March 27.— (Staff )— Mr. and Mrs. Charles Panke, well-known local residents, will observe their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their borne, 412 Murray street, Sunday, when they will have a family reunion during the afternoon and will be at home to a large number of friends in the evening.
Mr. Panke, who came to Pembroke when a young man, was formerly a contractor and is now a stonemason and bricklayer. He was born 74 years ago in Wilberforce township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Panke. Mrs. Panke is an active worker in the Red Cross Society. She is the former Minnie Markus, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Markus, and was born at Golden Lake 67 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Panke, who were married in Pembroke in 1892, are members of Zion Evangelical Church and take a prominent part in its activities.
They have four daughters and three sons, Mrs. G. L. Plummer, Ottawa; Mrs. Lloyd Bender, San Diego, Cal; Mrs. George O'Dacre and Mrs. E. C. Hore, Pembroke; H. W. Panke, Paterson, N.J; A. C. Panke, Cleveland, Ohio, and F. W. Panke, Cincinnati, Ohio, and 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Panke has four brothers, William Panke, Sudbury; Herman and John Panke, Pembroke, and Gustave Panke, Wilberforce, and Mrs. Panke has one brother, William J, Markus. They expect Mrs. Plummer and Mrs. H. W. Panke, and Mr. and Mrs. F. W. will be present.20
In the obituary of William Markus who died 4 June 1943, his father, Martin Markus was listed as predeceased.21
The following biographical information was shared at an email from the late Jean Panke, 22 January 2004:
Jean thinks that this family may have anglisized their name to Marcus, or Markus. She wrote:

I have been busy with other things right now so have done very little researching. I was looking through the Census for 1871, there is a Map that indicates where the families lived at the front of the booklet. . .

There was a Martin Marcus, lived not far from Fred and Gottlieb Yourt. Martin Marcus didn't seem to reside in North Algona when the 1901 Census were taken. When I read the Harvest of Stones, I am sure it is the same Marcus, lived at Rankin, seems he travelled to Golden Lake to attend church. Makes sense because he was an Evangelical.

Other families living next door, so to speak to Godforty Gurt, was Frederick Gurt, which would have been the Fred that moved to Raglan Township. I would think he is the chap that donated the Bible to the Church in Golden Lake as recorded in their Anniversary Booklet. The Fred Yourt, brother of my grandfather would have been too young the year the church was built. There were two Luloff families., Gotlip Kehl, Biesenthal, August Quade, I thought Quadville was named after the Quade Family. They must have moved too. There was also a Junop family, I think they must have moved also. It almost appears as though where they lived, is now where the Berndt family has lived and as long as I can remember. Martin Junop was a neighbour, his son Godfrey would have married my grandmother's sister, Rose many years later. Junops would have sold their property too, as they lived on the other side of Golden Lake towards Eganville, they would have lived in Wilberforce Township.

Where the Schmidt's lived, my cousin has records, the property was sold to Godfried Yourt, in 1898, at that time, Rev. H.G.G, Schmidt was preaching and probably lived with my Grandmother and Grandfather when he wasn't on the road. Where the Schmidt's had lived, this would be where Uncle George and Aunt Bella lived when they got married. .

I definitely feel that Martin Markus is the same person as you referred to as Markusch and was married to Caroline Jurth.
I am going to check through some of the other Booklets that I have from the townships and see if there is any record of him there. It doesn't appear that he is buried at the Golden Lake Cemetery. I am sure there were too many families, and not enough property for all to raise a family. The(y) relocated.22
