The following information regarding the accident that claimed the lives of Albert and two of his children, and injury to Edith is from my (Rick Moffat's) personal research , February 1965 :
"In February 1965, defendant Sawyer was found guilty by a jury of second degree murder of Albert Croskell as charged in count two of the indictment and she was also found guilty of unlawfully and feloniously inflicting a bodily injury upon one Edith Lucille Croskell as charged in count five of the indictment. These charges arose when the defendant drove an automobile while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and caused an automobile collision which resulted in the death of Mr. Croskell and in personal injuries to Mrs. Croskell. The defendant's 35(b) motion does not challenge her conviction for causing a personal injury as a result of driving a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and for which she received a four to five year term in the penitentiary. At the time of sentencing, the trial court ordered that the two sentences imposed upon her be served concurrently."
Further documentation shows that on Jun 13, 1964 Stella M Sawyer had been driving a vehicle under the influence of intoxicating alchol and that she collided with the Croskell car, killing Albert and injuring Edith Lucille Croskell. She was convicted of second degree murder (15-20 years) and causing personal injury (4 to 5 years).
The second degree murder conviction was later overturned.7,3

The Late John Pilgrim
Mr. John Pilgrim, whose death occurred on January 28, was born in South Algona, this county, on December 7, 1867. His marriage to Ernestine Hempke was in 1890 and of the union eleven children were born. Four predeceased him to the grave, and seven are living, namely, Mrs. Louis Hildebrandt of Rosenthal, Mrs. E. J. Binney of Tregarva, Sask; Mrs. A. Brohart of Letterkenny, Mrs. George Hartwigh (sic) of Cobden, Mrs. John Verch of Killaloe, and one son, George of Rosenthal. There are thirty-eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survive: Gustave of Haleys Station, William of Powassan and Mrs. William Budarick of Palmer Rapids.
Mr. Pilgrim came to Rosenthal with his parents as a boy and as he grew to manhood took up farming as it was under pioneer conditions sixty years ago. Mr. Pilgrim was a deeply religious man and an active member of the Evangelical Church. He was Sunday School superintendent for fifty-two years, and teacher of the adult bible class for forty years. He believed in public prayer. His work on behalf of his Church in these parts will not soon be forgotten.
The funeral took place on Friday from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Hildebrandt, to the Evangelical church. Rev. W. A. Durst officiated, and the choir rendered two of the late Mr. Pilgrim's favorite hymns.
Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. A large number of neighbors and friends attended the funeral services and in this manner paid fitting tribute to one who was highly esteemed and respected by all.
The Rosenthal Sunday School and the Proudfoot family presented two beautiful wreaths.8
