A gloom was cast over the community on Thursday afternoon of last week when the news spread that the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bimm, Jr., met death by drowning. He and a number of young companions were disporting themselves in the Bonnechere at Lett's Landing when the boy got beyond his depth and drowned. His companions strived in every manner to effect a rescue and had almost succeeded when the limp body slipped from their exhausted arms back into the water.1

Herman Verch was referenced in a newspaper article about Two South Algona Boys Missing
Search is being made for two young men, Ellard Verch and Garnet Schruder, both of Ruby, South Algona, who have been missing since Sunday from a lumber camp on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River about 45 miles from Pembroke.
The two youths, who were employed by George Zadow, Pembroke jobber, left the camp with two other men Sunday morning to look for a trout lake. After walking a considerable distance, they decided to return to the camp, and while two members of the party retraced their steps. Verch and Schruder decided to take a shortcut and apparently got lost. Their tracks have been followed through the bush by searchers, but the snow that was on the ground at the first of the week has no melted and the trail was lost.
Men from the lumber camp and friends of the young men are carrying on the search, and the aid of Quebec provincial police has been enlisted.
Verch is a son of Herman Verch, a former Reeve of South Algona, and Schruder is a son of Herbert Schruder of Rudy.
This (Friday) afternoon it was rumored the youths had reached Brumm's camp, about 25 miles distant from the point they had entered the woods. This, however, could not be confirmed. on 19 November 1943 at the book Reflections of a Century compiled by the Eganville Leader (2002), Eganville, Ontario, Canada.1

Pembroke Woman Burned to Death When Car Exploded
Pembroke, Oct. 8[:
Mrs. Ezra Schonnop, 60, of Miller St., Pembroke, was burned to death early Saturday when the car in which she was riding exploded and burst into flames after being struck by another car. Mrs. Schonnop and her husband had stopped on the B Line, four miles south of here, to assist Arthur Boldt, 32, of R.R. 6, Pembroke, whose truck was in the ditch. A car driven by Thomas Maloney, 21, of the Royal Canadian Air Force Station, at Foymount, struck the rear of the Schonnop car.
Mr. Boldt kicked out the windshield and pulled Mr. Schonnop from the burning car. "When I returned for the screaming Mrs. Schonnop, her body was engulfed in flames," he said.1
Pembroke, Oct. 8[:
Schonnop, her body was engulfed in flames," he said.1
In the obituary of Ezra Bertram Schonnop who died 26 August 1986, his wife, the former Ida Schultz, was listed as predeceased.9
In the obituary of Beverly Cook who died 27 June 2001, her parents, Ezra Schonnop and Ida Schultz were listed or implied as predeceased.10
