Relationship3rd great-grandmother of Richard Graeme Moffat
Last Edited29 Oct 2023
She was born circa 1800, possibly in Drachhausen which was her residence before emigrating to Canada, at Cottbus, Brandenburg, Prussia/Preußen (modern Germany),4,5,6,7; or, in 1799 at Germany according to the 1871 census.8 Liese married Johann Gottfried Jurth before 1823.9,10,11,7,8
Liese Bulkow died on 29 September 1878 at Wilberforce and North Algona Twps., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, according to Ontario Death Registration 012633.12,6
She was commonly knownas Annie according to her daughter Annie's death registration as submitted by A E Lisk, Annie's son. Since he is 2 generations removed, this may be incorrect.13 She and J. G. Jurth were included on a passenger manifest for the "Keppler" dated 2 April 1863 departing from Port of Hamburg, Hamburg, German Confederation (modern Germany), to Québec accompanied by their son, Johann, and his wife and children, Anna Jurth, Matthes Jurth, Anna Jurth and Lise Jurth. Children
  • Johann Gottfried Jurth+16,17 b. c 1824, d. 11 Feb 1900
  • Caroline Jurth+ b. Sep 1830, d. 1 Apr 1908; Identification of Caroline as a daughter of Johann Gottlieb Jurth and Liese Bulkow is based upon the Brandenburg Prussian Emigration records. Both families immigrated to Canada in 1863 from the same area of Germany.

In her husband's obituary, her maiden name was listed as Yandt. This means:
    a) Yurth and Yandt are variations based upon interpretations of hand-written records. In this case Yandt would probably be more accurate, and the relationship to J G Jurth less probable;
    b) an error in the obituary, or
    c) an error in the Brandenburg record

    Update May 2016
The Hamburg Passenger list for their departure appears to read Y G Yurth and family.
Caroline's son William's obitiary gives her surname as Yourth18,19

Gottfried Furth (sic) was a survivor of his wife Liese who died in 1852.15
Johann Gottfried Jurth was described as

in the Brandenburg emigration records, he is described as a "Haeusler". I found in a web posting July 25, 2004:
Date: 2003/09/30 19:49:24
From: Karl-Heinz Becker ...Strictly speaking a "BUEDNER" (also known as "HAEUSLER") is not an occupation, but merely describes a person who lives in a village, has his own small house but very little land if any. To pay for his living expenses he was forced to either work for the landowner or other people.

in 1863.18,19 He was found on a passenger list for the "Keppler" with his parents J. and Lise dated 2 April 1863 at the Port of Hamburg, as well as his wife, Anna, and three children, Mathes, Anna and Lise. He was a laborer.20,21,13
Godforty and Hanna Gurt appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Algona Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. Godforty was described as a Farmer and an Evangelical Association. Their children, Matthias, Hanna, Elisabeth, Frederick, Godforty and Caroline, were listed as living with them.11
Godfred and Hanah Youart appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. Godfred was described as a Farmer and Evangelical Association. Their children, Hanah, Eliza, Fredrick, Godfreid, Carolina and Mathew, were listed as living with them. As was Matthew's wife, Betsy and their daughter, Hanah.12
Godfrey Yourth was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of Godfrey Yourth and Mary Louise Schmidt on 19 August 1891.22

In regard to the Annie or Hanna, she tells me her father would sometimes call her sister either name. But she thinks that really she would have been originally Hannah, this was how it was spelled years ago.

This comment was in response to my writing that I thought Annie and Hannah were the same individual. My assumption in footnotes reads: Annie (gravemarker, Glen Irwin & Gordon Wilkinson) and Hanah (1881 census) are the same person. Per the gravestone, Annie was born in 1879. Annie is not enumerated with the family in 1881, but Hanah is. She was listed as 2, so born about 1879.

William Yourth died on 11 July 1943.2,3
The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Renfrew Mercury published in Renfrew, Ontario 15 July 1943 :
The sad news came by phone on Sunday that Mr. William Yourth of Cobden, died suddenly after attending to the farm chores on Sunday morning. Mr. Yourth was born at Rosenthal. The sympathy of the community goes to the sorrowing home.2

The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
I assume that this is the William Yourth born in 1882, since I have years of death for the other two in this database.

Harvey Yourth, wasn't married, she (Grace (Lehman) Francois) tells me that William wasn't either.4
