Gordon Alcorn was sentenced to life in prison for his part in the abduction and ransom of Charles Boettcher of Denver on February 12, 1933. Gordon and his partner Vern Sankey had been robbing banks in the northern US and in Canada, before they kidnapped Haskell Bohn in St. Paul, Minnesota.
He was initially imprisoned on 9 February 1934 at United States Penitentiary, Leavonworth, Leavenworth, Kansas, USA.3 Gordon was later transferred to the newly redesigned Alcatraz prison, becoming prisoner number 114. He feared for his life since he had testified against Sankey's wife for her alleged role in the kidnapping cases. She was acquitted on both counts. By Oct 30th, 1934 after testifying, he was returned to Leavenworth where he hoped to serve out his sentence. However, a 1941 news report relating to parole petitions for Alcorn and another accomplice, Arthur Youngberg, show that he was again serving his sentence at Alcatraz.4,5 In 1949, Gordon was released from prison and was deported to Canada. He settled in Vancouver where he lead a "quiet and law-abiding life."3

Alcorn was known in Chicago as "Waiter Thomas." and was rapidly making arrangements to move, having heard of the apprehension of Sankey last Wednesday.
Sankey, after hours of questioning In connection with the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, was hurriedly started by train for Sioux Falls, S.D., last night. He reached there at noon today. He is under Indictment In South Dakota for the Boethcher (sic) kidnapping.
Chicago police indicated before Sankey's departure that they had been unable to connect him with the Lindbergh baby crime.
Alcorn's Father Section Foreman
SASKATOON, Feb. 2
Gordon Alcorn's father is a Canadian National Railways section foreman at Asquith. 28 miles west of Saskatoon. Besides the father and mother, there are three children at home and two living at other points in the province. Alcorn never has lived with his people at Asquith but visited there occasionally. They are a highly respected family and Gordon was well liked by the Asquith people. The family moved to Asquith from Melville seven or eight years ago.1
