All of their children and other relatives and friends (32 in number) joined in a big picnic dinner in their honor at the Little Brown church grounds.
The anniversary actually occurred Saturday, as Mr. and Mrs. Maitland were married on June 13, 1886, at Sycamore, Ill. They came to Iowa, settling in Wright county, in 1888. About six years ago they moved to a farm southeast of Nashua, and for the past three years have been residents of Nashua. Both are still quite active despite their advanced years, and enjoyed he event to the fullest extent.
The picnic also honored the 30th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Courtney of Dows, which occurred June 14th. Mrs. Courtney and Mrs. Maitland are sisters.
A photographer took pictures of the group, and a purse of money and many other gifts were received by the honored couple as remembrances of the occasion.
Those present to enjoy the event were: Mr. and Mrs. Maitland's children: J. Matt Maitland, Minneapolis; Tommy Maitland and wife and children of Pine Island, Minn; Mrs. Adah Peterson and son, Storm Lake; Mrs. M. V. (Emma) Gehrt and husband and family of Bradgate, and Mrs. Laura Crooks and sons of Nashua; their daughter-in-law, Mrs. A. E. Maitland, Clear Lake; Mr. Maitland's brother, Robert Maitland and his daughter, Mrs. John Hyde and husband and family, of Ventura, Iowa; Mrs. Maitland's sister Mrs. J. P. Courtney and husband and son, Rodney, of Dows; and Mrs. Margaret Thompson of Minneapolis.
Mr. and Mrs. Maitland have 18 grandchildren, and all but seven of them were present at the anniversary celebration.16
