JAMES FOLEY MEETS DEATH
Victim of a Railroad Accident Which Occurred at Driftwood Yesterday.
WAS A RESIDENT OF ALTOONA
The Particulars Are Meager Beyond the Fact That He Was Killed by a Freight Train.
James Foley, a native and resident of Altoona, met death on the road at Driftwood, Pa., some time yesterday afternoon. The news of the accident was received by phone by Chief Clark shortly before 6 o'clock last evening from Chief Wilenbaugh, of Driftwood. Nothing more than he was in the company of George Leeper, of Altoona, and that he was killed by a freight train, was tlearned. Chief Clark was asked to notify the unfortunate man's sister, Mrs. George J. Smith, of 1915 avenue, of his untimely death.
James Foley was in the city a short time ago, but he suddenly departed and his whereabouts were unknown to his friends. Leeper was here a few weeks ago, but where he and Foley came together or whether they left the city at the same time is not known. Foley, was well known about the city and his death was a shock to his relatives.
James Thomas Foley was a son James and Bridget Foley, deceased, and was born in Altoona on March 26, 1871. He resided here the greater part of his life and on reaching manhood was employed off and on by the Pennsylvania Railroad company. After the death of his parents he made his home with his sister, Mrs. George J. Smith, until he enlisted in the United States army, in which he served one enlistment. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church, and is survived by his sister, Mrs. Smith, and one brother John Foley, of Second avenue, and Eighth street. The remains will be brought to this city to-day and will be given over to the care of Undertaker Stevens & Son to be prepared for burial, after which they will be taken to his sister's home. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.1
