M, #2425, b. 13 April 1833, d. 16 July 1899
Relationship2nd great-grandfather of Richard Graeme Moffat
Last Edited16 Feb 2024
He was born on 13 April 1833 at Frankfort on Oder, Germany.6,7,8,9 Alternatively, he may have been born circa 1831 at Germany according to the 1891 census.10 Christian married Caroline Teschner on 30 October 1853 at Peitz, Cottbus, Brandenburg, Prussia/Preußen (modern Germany).11,10,7,8,9,12,3,4
Christian Kruger died on 16 July 1899, probably at or near home on Lot 32/33, Concession 9 in the rural district of Schutt, at Brudenell, Lyndoch & Raglan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, at age 66 according to Ontario Death Registration 023325. This information had been sent to the registrar by letter, but the name of the sender is not recorded.6,13,8 The cause of his death was given as heart failure.13
Christian Krüger was buried at Schutt Cemetery (aka Emmanuel Evangelical United Cemetery), Raglan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.8
His name was also recorded as Christie Krieger.6,14,15,16,17 Christian and Caroline Krüger immigrated in 1868 or 1869 to Canada from Germany according to the 1911 census, accompanied by Maria, Christian and Friedrich.18,19
Christiana and Caroline Creor appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. Christiana was described as a farmer.. Their children, Mary, Christian, Fredrick and Louisa, were listed as living with them. As was John Tushner who was possibly Caroline's older brother.7
Christian Krueyer was recorded as father of the bride at the marriage of Martin Kiehlow and Maria Krueyer on 5 April 1875.20
Christian Kruger was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of Christian Krueger and Mary Hashuk on 11 June 1879.21
Cristy and Carline Cregar appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. Cristy was described as an Evangelical and a Farmer.. Their children, Cristy, Fredrick, Elizabeth and Bertha, were listed as living with them. As was Mary Cregar, his daughter-in-law.9
Christian and Caroline Kruger appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Raglan & Radcliffe Twps., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 5 June 1891. Christian was described as a farmer and "Evange". Their children, Frederick, Louisiae and Bertha, were listed as living with them. Louise and Bertha were born in Ontario, while the others were born in Germany. None of them could read or write.10
Christian Krüger was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of Christian Kruegar and Bertha Neuman on 18 October 1893.22
Christi (truncated in image) Krugar was recorded as the father of the bridegroom at the marriage of Christian Krugar and Louisa Panke on 30 April 1901.23 In the death registration of Frederick Krieger, who died on 12 November 1941, Christie Krieger was identified as his father.24
The following information is from my personal research, 1998:
Great-grandfather Krieger (Christie) was an adopted boy who came from East Germany (Frankfort on the Oder River). Gladys Krieger told Laurene Summach the reason he came over to Canada was because he was adopted and when times were not the best, the first to be sent out of the nest was the adopted one.25

     Research notes:
If Caroline Weiland was a Krieger, as indicated by Mark Woermke, was she related to our Christie Krieger?25

     Research notes (March 2017):
Is there a family relationship between Christian Krüger and Wilhelmina Kruger? Mom and Aunt Shirley used to speculate about a family connection. Apparently, there was a genetic defect that effected the Schutt's of Renfrew and they wondered if it relted to the Summach ataxia.25
