The following newspaper article appeared in the book Reflections of a Century compiled by the Eganville Leader (2002) at Eganville at Ontario originally published 25 April 1952 :
A deplorable tragedy occurred near Killaloe on Tuesday evening, resulting in almost instant death to a 10-year-old boy, Reginald Hartwig, of Hagarty Township. He was leading or driving a pair of colts to a nearby field when the animals became frightened and ran away, dragging the boy across the field. He was dead when he was found, and his body showed evidence of very severe injuries. Reginald was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hartwig. The tragedy has brought deep sorrow to their home, and, in the community, deepest sympathy is felt with them in the affliction which came so suddenly upon them.4
