He was born on 6 October 1868 at Germany according to his death registration. David Gierman gives his birthplace as Ravenstein. However, the 1921 census gives his birth place as Ontario. This is probably not correct.3,4,6,7 Alternatively, he may have been born on 7 October 1867 at Ravenstein, Kreis Saatzig, Pommern, Germany (modern Poland)G, born in Berlinka according to his son's marriage registration8; or, circa 1870 at Germany according to the 1891 census.5 Edward married Auguste Fehlhaber on 24 May 1898 at Eganville, Grattan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.9,10,11,7
Edward Gustave Kuehl died on 7 June 1926 at Cottage Hospital, Pembroke, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, at age 57.12,9,7,4
The cause of his death was given as a myocardial failure and septic arthritis according to Ontario Death Registration 029568.4
Edward Gustave Kuehl was buried on 9 June 1926 at Lyndoch Evangelical Cemetery, Brudenell, Lyndoch & Raglan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.9,7,4,13
His name was also recorded as Eduard Kühl on his daughter Thina's marriage registration, but there was some creative spelling on this document.14
He was commonly known as Ned. He immigrated circa 1876 to Canada from Germany.9
Advart Kuel appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Lyndoch Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario in the household of his parents, William and Luisa Kuel.5 Edward Gustave Kuehl was the informant on the death registration of Louise Salenbeine.15,16,17
Edward and Gustave Kuehl appeared on the 1921 Canadian Census of Brudenell Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 5 June 1921. Edward was described as a farmer. Their children Lydia, Robert, Elsie, Charles, Adeline and Annie were listed as living with them. This enumeration includes a few "facts" that do not support other sources. For instance, he was reported to have been born in Ontario. She was reported to have immigrated in 1900 and to have been naturalized in 1908.6
The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Eganville Leader published in Eganville, Ontario circa 8 June 1926 :
Died in the Cottage Hospital
at Pembroke on Monday, Edward Kuehl, of Foymount, Township of Sebastopol. Born in Germany Oct 1, 1868, Mrs. (sic) Kuehl came to this country with his parents, when a child of seven years.
He is survived by his wife and eight (sic) children: Robert, Lester (sic - s/b Robert Lester), Charles and Albert of Sebastopol; Mrs Robert Bimm, Eganville; Mrs A. Gierman, Sebastopol; Elsie, Adeline, Annie and Pearl at home.
Note that 9, not 8, children are listed as survivors.12
