Harry Chambers of Asquith began military service on 27 January 1916 at the age of 19 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 65th Battalion and later transferring to the 72nd Battalion. He was an unmarried farmer with no military experience. He was described as being 5' 9.5" with a fair complexion, blue eyes and auburn hair. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his father, Harry Chambers of Asquith. He was assigned regimental number 472991.3
On 28 June 1916, he arrived in England aboard the Empress of Britain and was transferred to the 65th Battalion. He embarked for France on August 12, 1916 from Bramshott Camp. He received a shell wound in his right foot on September 18, 1917. He was treated at No. 23 Casualty Clearing Station and moved to No. 2. Australian General Hospital at Wimereux. He then went to No. 1 Convalescent Depot at Boulogne, and was discharged on October 13th.3 Pte. Harry Chambers was killed in action on 29 September 1918. He died in the attack on Sancourt and Blecourt which was captured by the Canadian Corps on that day. He was serving with the 72nd Battalion, British Columbia Regiment
