Passing Away of One of Killaloe's Pioneers
On December 10th, 1948, Herman Getz, a well-known and respected citizen of the community and surrounding country, passed away quietly after a lengthy and critical illness.

He was born in the township of Hagarty, January 29th, 1873, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Getz of Killaloe. The greater part of his life was spent in Killaloe, except for a number of years that he spent in the vicinity of Rockingham, Ont., before returning to take up residence in Killaloe. On July 1st, 1898, he was united in marriage to Bertha Meyers.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hagarty, where funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Carl R. Weisser, on Monday, December 13th, at two o'clock, p.m. At the same time a large host of friends and relatives gathered to pay a last tribute to Mr. Getz and together share the burdens of the bereaved.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife and children. The eldest died in infancy. Surviving are his wife; Mrs/ Gus. Welk (Annie) of Killaloe, Mrs. Charles Runtz (Clara) of Arnprior, Mrs. Thomas Legrie (Edna) also of Arnprior, Edgar of Killaloe, Gordon, John and Herman at home; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and John of Killaloe; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Kasten of Baraboo, Wis., Mrs. Nicholas Kranz of Deacon and Mrs. Alex. Potter of Killaloe. One brother predeceased him in 1924 [] besides a host of friends and relatives.6

     Rev. Francis Louis Strobel died on 8 February 1972 at age 74.9,4
     Rev. Francis Louis Strobel was buried at Hazel Ridge Cemetery, Elkhorn, Walworth County, Wisconsin, USA.4
     He was educated between 1918 and 1922 Secunda class in 1917/1918 and Senior class in 1921/22 at Rochester Theological Seminary, Rochester, Monroe County, New York, USA.10,11

     On or about Sept 11, 1923 (the day is difficult to read), Ethel Evelin Zummach crossed the border at Buffalo, New York and completed a Primary Inspection Memorandum. She gave her age as 21, born at Killaloe and her occupation as a domestic. Her nearest relative was listed as her mother, Lena. Is it too much to speculate that she was meeting her fiance in Albany, New York?12 He attempted to cross the border but was rejected on 27 September 1923 to Lacolle Junction, Québec, Canada, His last address in the US was 217 1/2 Sherman St., Albany, NY. He declared that he was moving to Arnprior as an unordained minister for the Baptist church.8 He performed the marriage ceremony for Amelia Hehmkie and Leonard Kargus on 22 September 1927 at Wolfe, Brudenell & Lyndoch Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG; according to Ontario Marriage Registration 019838.13
     Francis L and Ethel E. Strobel appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Trenton City, Sugar Creek Twp., Clinton County, Illinois, enumerated 12 April 1930, described as the minister at the First Baptist Church. Their daughter, Lois M., was listed as living with them.7
     In September, 1938, he was called to be pastor of the Cook's Mill and Sullivan churches in Coles County, Illinois.14
     Francis L and Ethel E. Strobel appeared on the 1940 U.S. Federal Census of Cooks Mill, North Okaw Twp., Coles County, Illinois, enumerated 18 April 1940, described as a cleryman in the "preaching" industry. Their children: Lois M., were listed as living with them.15
     He resigned as pastor of the Cook's Mill and Sullivan churches.14
