     She was born in December 1837 at Germany according to the 1911 census.8,9 Alternatively, she may have been born on 24 December 1839 at Germany according to the 1901 census10; or, on 24 August 1837 at Zeitlitz, Kreis Regenwalde, Pommern, Germany (modern Poland)G.2,5,11 Wilhelmina married John H. W. Gernois on 21 November 1861 at Bromley, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.12,13,14,15,11
     Wilhelmina Gietz died on 1 November 1913, possibly in Balgonie, at Saskatchewan, Canada, at age 75.16,17
     Wilhelmina Gietz was buried at First German Baptist Cemetery, Edenwold, RM of Edenwold No. 158, Saskatchewan, Canada.9
     John and Mena Geno appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. John was described as a Baptist and a farmer. Their children, Margrett, Mary, Tena, Daniel, John and Mena, were listed as living with them.11

     Margaret appeared n the 1921 Canadian Census of Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, in the household of William Edward Ristaw and Augusta Ristaw, her mother, and listed as retired.10 Margaret Gienow was a survivor of her husband Carl who died on 25 August 1932.1
     In the obituary of Emma Redtman who died 14 February 1938, her (step) mother, Margaret Gienow was listed as predeceased.16

The registration listed the following official witnesses: Karl Kuihl and William Blodow. His parent(s) were listed as Carl Ristau and G. Dragovins. Her parents were listed as John Genoe and Whilmina Gietz.9

     Mary Ann Genoe died on 20 November 1884 at Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, of Chlorosis according to Ontario Death Registration 016619. Today this disease is diagnosed as hypochromic anemia.

According to this document, she was born in Bromley Twp., Renfrew County and she was 21 at the time of her death.4,10,11,5 The informant on her death registration was John Knight.10

     Daniel Gienow of Balgonie, Saskatchewan was listed as next-of-kin/contact on his son Daniel's attestation (enlistment) papers.20,21
     Daniel Geno appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario in the household of his parents, John and Mena Geno.9 Daniel Geno, of Hagarty (township), was listed as a witness to the marriage of Ernst Gietz and Catherina Baetz on 30 July 1891.22
     Danial and Annie B. Genow appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a farmer and a Baptist. Their children: John, Danial, Minnie, Samuel and Girtie, were listed as living with them. As was his mother, Menia Genow.13
     Daniel and Anna Geno appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Saskatchewan, enumerated 5 June 1911. Daniel was described as a farmer and a Baptist. Their children John, Dan, Samual, Gertruth, Norman, Emma, Walter, Lorenz, Milda and Annabell were listed as living with them. As was his grandmother, Minna Getz.10
     Denial and Annie Gienow appeared on the 1916 Census of Canadian Prairie Provinces, RM of Edenwold No. 158, Saskatchewan, enumerated 1 June 1916, described as a farmer and a Baptist.. Their children John, Samuel, Gerdrude, Norman, Wother, Milterd, Louis, Annie, Ralfe and Edwin were listed as living with them. German was his mother tongue. The 1916 census only recorded the age, not the date of birth.12 Daniel Frederick Gienow was a survivor of his child John who died in 1918 and was administrator of his estate.23 On 5 June 1936 at Balgonie in Qu'Appelle County, Daniel Frederick Gienow certified the accuracy of information about the birth of his daughter, Mildred Gienow.24

GIENOW -- Friday, July 8, 1949, in a local hospital, Daniel Frederick, dearly beloved husband of Mrs. D. F. Gienow, Balgonie, Sask., passed away at the age of 81 years, Besides his wife, Mr. Gienow is survived by six sons and three daughters, Sam, Balgonie, Norman, Yorkton, Walter, Swan River, Man; Lawrence, Rouleau; Ralph, Niagara Falls, Ont; Jim, Atikokan, Ont; Mrs. Gertrude Smith, Kelowna, B.C; Mrs. Mildred Hanson, Chicago, Ill, U.S.A; and Mrs. Ann Rennick, Rouleau. Predeceased are two sons, John and Dan. There are also 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services for the late Mr. Gienow was (sic) conducted from the First Baptist church on Tuesday, July 12, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. E. M. Checkland officiating. Interment in the family plot, Regina cemetery. The Regina Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Note: two previous editions gave his name as David Frederick Gienow.19


     In the obituary of Annie Gienow who died 12 April 1959, his husband, Daniel Gienow, was listed as predeceased.25
     In the obituary of Anne Belle Gienow who died 21 August 2001, her parents, Daniel Gienow and Anne Gienow were listed or implied as predeceased.26

Gusta Kielow registered the deaths of her daughter and husband on Jan 3, 1893 (the document (015583) says 1892, but this is a common error at the start of a new year.)8 The cause of his death was given as consumption, which he had for over a year.8 The informant on his death registration was his wife, Gusta Kielow.8

     Joseph and Mary Bullins appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of St. Vincent Twp., Grey County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881, Church of England and a Farmer. Their son George was listed adescribed as s living with them. Note their surname may be interpreted as Butters.24
     Mary Ann appeared on the1901 Canadian Census of St. Vincent Twp., Grey County, Ontario, in the household of Joseph Croskill and Elizabeth H. Croskill.10 Mary Ann Butters was a survivor of her husband Joseph who died in 1903.50

Occupation of 3 oldest boys listed as "mechanic". Believe son Albert had come earlier, possibly at the request of her eldest brother, William WHITE, "who was for years Reeve of Collingwood Township", Grey County, Simcoe, Canada.

The family first lived [ref. Aunt Irene] in the Town of Collingwood, Simcoe County, Ontario, where youngest brother, Joseph WHITE, and his family were already residing, and then may have lived for a time with each/some of her brothers and sisters on the 10th line of Collingwood Twp., Grey County, Ontario. Most likely her family was split among the various relatives, or the older children were boarding where they worked.

Religion: (Marriage info): Joseph - Methodist, Mary Ann - Baptist! Her obituary states that (she) was a devoted member of the Methodist church almost from early childhood. [Jean Rhiness speculates that perhaps the church of choice was dependant upon proximity. In the 1881 census, she is listed as Church of England.]

Lived in St. Vincent Twp.after marriage (Meaford first - ref Aunt Irene) until old age and/or until the detah of her 2nd husband in July 1903, when she went to live with her youngest son, Joseph Crosskill, my grandfather, first in Sydenham Twp. (N1/2L8C1) until 1909, then in St. Vincent Twp, S-1/2 Lot 23 Concession 7, 7th Line North. No children with Joseph Butters.

Ability to read: Made her mark with an X on Certified Copies of her 1st marriage and for the Registration of Birth of her children for those found. CROSSKILL aunts have told me that she later learned to read and write so that she could correspond with her siblings and son who preceeded her to Canada, as wlee as to be able to read her Bible for herself. Also re correspondense with those children who lived in the USA for short or long periods of time. (On the 1881 Census of St. Vincent Twp., mentioned above, she said she could read and write! I do ont have a photocopy of her 2nd marriage in 1876 and so don't know if she signed her name at that time.)

Died: 05Ap1911 at home of youngest son sin St. Vincent Twp., Grey County, ONtario, Canada. She was survived by 3 sons & 1 daughter: Charles of Tacoma, Wash., Frederick of Collingwood, Joseph of St. Vincent, and Emma (Mrs. J.J. Johnston) of Meaford, her 4 youngest children. "By whose death the last member of the WHITE family has departed this life... Throughout her long life she strove to exemplify the virtues of the Christian religion and to teach principles of charity and love as the highest development of a true and noble womanhood." (Obit.) [ Jean notes - I am proud to be a descendant.]

...when we were living on Uncle Tom's place and Amelia Denzin was married. As I said before, we were invited to the wedding. She was married to Will Seed. She wore a Navy blue dress which she made herself. She looked very nice, and, as I said, we could not dance -- against the rules of their religion -- they were Plymouth Brethren. So we sang hymns out of little red hymnbooks and played some games.

One thing I had actually entirely forgotten on the evening's program until I received a letter from Beckie Sutton yesterday. She recalled the thing I want to relate here. During the evening of the wedding, along about ten o'clock, Mr. Denzin went out to the stable and came in with a box containing a litter of new born pigs and put them by the stove in the kitchen. Beckie said in her letter, "Everybody thought it was time to go home, and went." I am glad Beckie recalled that episode to my memory.

     She was born on 18 January 1878 at Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.4,2 Alternatively, she may have been born circa 1879 at Ontario, Canada, age 2 in 1881 census.3 Hannah married Moses Seed on 27 January 1897 at Tregarva, RM of Lumsden No. 189, Saskatchewan, Canada.5,4,6,7,2
     Hannah Denzin died on 17 February 1947 at 951 Falmouth Road, District of Saanich, British Columbia, Canada, at age 69 had lived in the municpality for 27 years according to BC Death Registration 1947-09-002418.2 The informant on her death registration was her daughter, Laura Seed.2
     Hannah Denzin was buried on 21 February 1947 at Colwood Burial Park, Colwood, British Columbia, Canada.2
     Johannah Denzion appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario in the household of her parents, Frank and Eliza Denzion.3
     Johanna Denzin appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario in the household of her parents, Francis and Louisa Denzin.8

Marriage
Seed-Denzin - At the home of the bride's parents, Tregarva, on 27th January, 1897, by the Rev. T. C. Buchanan, of Regina. Moses Seed to Johanna Denzin, both of Tregarva.6

     Moses and Johannah Seed appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Craven, Assiniboia, Northwest Territories (Saskatchewan), enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a farmer and a Brethern, while she was a Baptist. Their son George Robert was listed as living with them. As well as two farm laborers, William Ganhow (Brethern) and Samuel Denzin.4
     In the obituary of Agusta Louisa Amelia Pilgrim who died 16 January 1937, her daughter Hannah, Mrs. M See (sic) of Victoria, BC, was listed as a survivor.9
     Hannah Seed, the widow, was referenced, but not by name, in the obituary of Moses Seed, who died 3 February 1938.10
