"Earthlier happy is the rose distilled
Than that, which withering on the virgin thorn
Grows, lives and dies in a single blessedness."
[Shakespeare - A Midsummer Night's Dream, 1. 1 ]
The residence of Mr Wm. Richards, Balaclava, was the scene of a very pretty and interesting event on Wednesday evening, June 18th, when Rev. A. Mackenzie, of Douglas, united in the bonds or matrimony Mr James F Mayhew, of Sault Ste. Marie, and Miss Bertie, eldest daughter of Mr Wm. Richards. The bride, charmingly attired in a gown of white silk, was tastily assisted yb her sister, Miss Eva, and also by Miss J. Box, who were similarly attired, and the groom by G. A. Brown of Admaston. The bride and bridesmaids carried beautiful bouquets of roses and maiden hair fern. After the ceremony was performed, a large number of invited guests sat down to tables laden with delicacies arranged in such a manner as made a beautiful display. The happy couple were the recipients of many handsome and costly presents, showing the esteem in which they are held. As they leave us to take up residence at the Soo they are followed by the best wishes of all for a prolonged, happy and prosperous life.
"He is the half part of a blessed man waiting to be completed by such as she
And she a fair divided Excellence whose fullness of perfection lies in him"

The bride, charmingly attired in a gown of white silk, was tastily assisted yb her sister, Miss Eva, and also by Miss J. Box, who were similarly attired, and the groom by G. A. Brown of Admaston. The bride and bridesmaids carried beautiful bouquets of roses and maiden hair fern. After the ceremony was performed, a large number of invited guests sat down to tables laden with delicasies arranged in such a manner as made a beautiful display. The happy couple were the recipients of many handsome and costly presents, showing the esteem in which they are held. As they leave us to take up residence at the Soo they are followed by the best wishes of all for a prolonged, happy and preosperous life.

Personal News of the Capital
A pretty but quiet wedding took place in Bell Street Methodist Church on Sept. 4 at 8:30 o'clock when Miss Vera May Wainman, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Wainman, of 733 Cooper street, was united in marriage to Mr. E. Mayhew, of Renfrew, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Mayhew, Renfrew. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. S. Clendinnen. Palms and pink and white asters were effectively used in decorating the church. Miss Annie Wainman, cousin of the bride, presided at the organ.
The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very charming in her gown of cream crepe with veil and carried a shower bouquet [of] Ophelia roses. Miss Edna Wainman, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid and she wore a gown of mauve crepe de chine, picture hat and carried roses and sweet peas.
The groom was attended by his brother, Mr. Stanley Mayhew. Little Misses Audrey Wainman and Lura Troke, nieces of the bride, were flower girls. They wore dainty frilly frocks of white voil (sic - s/b voile), little hats with rose buds and carried baskets of pink and white sweet peas. The groom's gift to the bride was a diamond necklet, to the bridesmaid and organist, pearl brooches, the groomsman, cuff links.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents, where a buffet lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Mayhew left for their home in Renfrew. The bride travelled in a tailored suit of navy blue.7
