The following newspaper article appeared in the book Reflections of a Century compiled by the Eganville Leader (2002) at Eganville at Ontario originally published 11 January 1962 :
Four children and their great-grandfather died in a fire which destroyed their home on a remote country road at Clontarf in Sebastopol township last Friday night around 10:30 o'clock. News of the tragedy shocked the whole country-side and evoked expressions of sympathy for the grief-stricken parents.
Dead are William Felhaber, age 83, semi-paralyzed by a stroke four years ago, and Debra 5, Donald 4, Jackie 2 and Shirley 1, children of Mr. Felhaber's grandson, Ellard and his wife.
Mrs. Felhaber is expecting another child, and, as the roads are uncertain and the home is located some distance from the nearest telephone, it is said the couple had gone to the home of Mrs. Felhaber's mother, Mrs. Florence Mulroy, located some six miles distant on the main road. Both Mr. and Mrs. Felhaber are 27 years old. Their oldest child, Willard, age 6, was also spending the night at the home of his grandmother.
The fire was spotted by Seymour and D'arcy Felhaber, who were driving past the house about 11:30 p.m. They drove to a grocery store, owned by Mr. Verner Drefke, several miles away, to summon help. When they returned other relatives were at the scene but the fire was raging out of control.
Flames were shooting out of the doors and windows and the kitchen in the rear had burned to the ground. There was no hope. Coroner Dr. R.L. Reeves said an inquest will be held.
The Felhaber home was a two-storey cement block building heated with a wood furnace, and, as a result of the raging fire and the intense heat, little identifiable remains are left of the victims.16

PEMBROKE, May 12 (Special)
Mrs. Harry Felhaber, 39, died in the Cottage Hospital here this morning from burns suffered when she attempted to light the stove in her Clontarf, Sebastopol Township, home, with coal oil on Friday afternoon. The oil caught fire, exploded and deluged Mrs. Felhaber with the naming liquid. Her 14-year-old son, Harry, beat out the flames on his mother's clothing, managed to get her and five younger brothers and sisters out of the burning kitchen before returning and putting out the fire which had caught in the walls of the room. Mrs. Felhaber was rushed to Pembroke Hospital where she was attended by Dr. Al. L. Higginsori. The funeral will be held it her home on Tuesday.8
