Prominent Collingwood Twp. Man, Former Councillor, Passes
CLARKSBURG, Feb. 19 — Robert Shaw, well known and highly respected resident of Collingwood Township and prominent in its social political life. died at his home, and. 16, 5th concession of Collingwood, three miles east of Ravenna, on Thursday afternoon. The late Mr. Shaw, who was in his 79th year, had been in ailing (sic) health for the past year, but had only been seriously ill for a day prior to his death. His passing came as a great shock to his many friends. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shaw, he was born on the 4th concession of Collingwood, just two miles from the farm where he died and had resided in the township all his life.
The late Mr. Shaw had taken a very active part in municipal politics, being a member of the township council for thirty years in the last years of the 19th century and the first quarter of this century. In all that time, he was only defeated once when he contested the deputy reeveship. He was a staunch Conservative and a prominent worker in his party's cause.
Deceased leaves to mourn his passing his wife, formerly Margaret Hawman of Kirkville, Nottawasaga Township, Cecil of Clarksburg and Lucas of Sudbury. and three daughters, Lyla, Mrs. William Aylward, of Port Arthur, Myrtle, Mrs. Wyatt Smith of Myrtle, Man., and Mary, Mrs. Goldie Wilson, at home. One brother William Shaw of Toronto, also survives.3
