In the 1901 census we see that the families of Esther Krieger and Willie Pilgrim were enumerated on the same page (families 25 and 30, respectively) indicating that they were relatively close neighbours. In later years, they would live within a mile of each other in the Avondale district. He was 10 days older than she was.17

Emerson was another large baby. Mom told me that Fred and Esther were told that they could not have more children. Looking back, I'm not sure whether she meant they were saying she couldn't physically bear another child, or that doing so would risk her life.22
Fredrich and Ester Summack (sic) appeared on the 1916 Census of Canadian Prairie Provinces, RM of Loganton, Saskatchewan, enumerated 6 June 1916, described as a farmer and a Baptist. Their son Emmerson was listed as living with them. As were Fred's 2nd cousin, Henry Kuehl and Esther's 1st cousin, Mary Yourt who were included in the household as servants.1123

The Avondale Baptist Church was organized in the home of William and Ida Wellwood on 27 May 1921 in the Avondale district, south of Asquith. He was one of the first deacons of the church. Esther Summach, Mrs, Fred Summach was one of the charter members.25

Their children Emerson, Muriel, Delbert and Malcholm were listed as living with them. As was Jamieson Stewart who was listed as a servant/labourer (farm). All were listed as Baptist except for Esther who was listed as Methodist.7 Esther and Frederick celebrated their on 13 January 1928.13
The following article appeared in the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Saskatoon Daily Star, 21 January 1928 :
15TH ANNIVERSARY GIVEN BY COUPLE
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Summach of Avondale Receive Gifts From 75 Community Friends
AVONDALE--The community folk of Avondale held a surprise gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Summach on Friday evening to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of their wedding. Seventeen families were represented, making a total attendance of about 75 persons. The evening was spent in games. August Summach showed his conjuring ability. After the games Mr. and Mrs. Fred Summach were presented by Misses Jean Summach and Marguerite Junop with a basket containing a beautiful cut glass fruit bowl from the community, and a half dozen glass tumblers from the Sandberg family. An address was delivered by Master Harvey Summach, speaking the high esteem of the neighborhood which Mr. and Mrs. Summach had gained. The pair were showered with rice from the hands of Jim Smith. A lunch was served.26

Frederick and Esther Summach appeared on the 1931 Canadian Census of RM of Loganton, Saskatchewan, land location 17 35 09 W3, NE quarter, in the Avondale district, south of Asquith, enumerated 1 June 1931. Frederick was described as a farmer on his own grain farm and a Baptist. Their children Emerson, Muriel, Albert (sic), Malcolm, Olive, Kenneth, Manley, Estella, Shirley and Frederick were listed as living with them. They lived in a wooden house with 7 rooms. It was valued at $1,000. They did not own a radio.
The initial automated indexing of this census split grandpa Fred's family into two, with the first group having a surname of Simmach, and the second group, "Stevens". The AI tool interpreted the "u" with a faint stroke above it as an "i", but I have no idea where "Stevens" came from. The surname below grandpa Fred is indicated by a ditto mark for all of the family.8

Esther Summach and family attended the Rosenthal School Pals Reunion.
On Dominion Day (July 1) in 1931, August and Minnie Summach hosted a reunion of local families in which at least one of the parents had attended Rosenthal school in Renfrew County, Ontario. A photographer from Saskatoon took a panoramic photograph of about 14 families and other guests.27,28

The following article appeared in the Renfrew, Ontario Renfrew Mercury, 17 June 1937 :
Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Kreiger, Mr. and Mrs. John Kreiger and family and Mrs. Fred. Zummach -- nee Esther Kreiger -- were guests for dinner at Sam. Kreiger's camp last Sunday.

Note that Sunday was June 13th in 1937.

Esther and her youngest daughter Shirley were in Ontario visiting relatives. There is a picture of Fred and Annie Krieger, with Shirley's head barely visible to their left.29
