THORNBURY. July 21—An old and highly respected citizen of Heathcote, George Vamplew, passed quietly away in the General and Marine Hospital, Collingwood, Monday morning in his 72nd year.
The youngest son of the late William Vamplew and Maria McClunb (sic - should be White) the deceased was born on the old homestead on the southern outskirts of Heathcote on the townline between Collingwood and Euphrasia Townships He successfully farmed here until retiring eight years ago. In 1918 he was bereaved of his wife, formerly Miss Mary Elizabeth McClung, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McClung, 3rd line of Euphrasia. He lived with his family, spending the summers in Heathcote and the winter months in Hamilton.
Several years ago the late Mr. Vamplew suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered although until recently he had been able to travel alone and apparently enjoy good healyth (sic). His death came as a distinct shock to his many friends.
He leaves to mourn a family of four sons and three daughters: Clarence, farming near Heathcote; Wilfrid, Fort Erie: Russel, Owen Sound and Leslie, Collingwood; Irene, Mrs. H. Hooey Hamilton; Grace, Mrs. John Elford, Euphrasia Township, and Edna. Mrs. Glenn Jenkins.
Clarksburg, residing in Hamilton during her husband's training period in the R.C.A.F. A brother, William, for the past 19 years superintendent of Union Cemetery, Thornbury, now resides with a son, Elmer, Meaford R. R. 4, a sister, Mrs. Samuel Armstrong, lives in Heathcote. Of a quiet and retiring nature he was a life-long member and active worker in the Methodist, later the United Church.15

She was commonly known as Fredericka Kruger according to her son Edward's marriage registration.9,10 Her name was also recorded as Freiderika Luloff in the 1901 census and her son Ferdinand's Ontario marriage registration.11,4 Ernestine Friderike Krueger witnessed the immigration of Carl Friedrich Hein and Ernestine Emilie Kuehl in 1866 at Canada; Sailed from Hamburg aboard the "Eugenia" on April 17, 1866. Their destination was supposed to be Quebec City, but they arrived in New York on June 5/6, 1866. They travelled with Friedrich and Wilhelmine Kuëhl and cousin Ernestine Luloff.
